1957 European Model Beetle Deluxe Sunroof
Very stock and proper...I like the restraint used on the exterior...not
loaded with accessories
and the blackwall tires give it a real perfect period look.
Remember...this
is a European model...
I think the wide whitewalls were more of an American fashion at the
time
(yes I know they had them in Europe too
but I bet more VWs there had the blackwalls than we did here)
The European bumpers with the short guards are clean and simple and
uncluttered.
I really prefer them over the "towel rail" bumpers we had on
US cars.
The wheels are gorgeous in two tone with the painted center hubcaps and
Firestone bia ply tires.
Dealer badge on the quarter panel is awesome!!
The mirrors are really nice...passenger and driver.
Glass is all excellent, rubber is all perfect as well.
European bulb-type headlights with VW logo fluted lenses...gorgeous!
Wolfsburg crest on the hood.
Paintwork is very clean, virtually no stone chips or damage
(there must be a couple somewhere...there usually is...but it looks
fantastic!)
Nice to see the level of detail in the spots that many overlook.
Glass like paint finish is really awesome...look at the reflection here!
The Oval rear window...57 being the last year for this before going to
"Square window" production for the 58 model year.
Semaphore turn signals are functional!
Correct taillights...and a pretty good self portrait of yours truly
doing
my thing! LOL!
Droolingly beautiful is the term that comes to mind.
If you are after something really nice...I mean REALLY nice...this just
may be your car.
Decklid and bumpers and everything fit very well.
36 horse engine is truly show detailed and clean enough that I think
you
could talk your wife
into letting you bring it in the house! Super tidy!
Whole engine room is very clean...correct rear apron by the way with
the
"H" pattern stamping.
The engine runs as good as it looks...and it looks fantastic.
Very stock and proper with all the correct bits in place.
Stll 6 volt electricals as original.
Carburator and all fittings look factory fresh...check out the finish
on
it all... WOW!!
Incredibly tidy.
Another shot of the rear apron..
Underside of the engine lid.
And the cleanliness continues underneath...WOW!
Correct early split case transmission.
Hey...I just noticed in this photo...the heater cable is not hooked up.
Looks like it's all there to make it functional...so you have a built
in
opportunity to tinker with it a little bit!
And it is so clean underneath here you could do it without getting
grease
under your nails!
Chassis is very solid and the floor pan has a very durable finish to
keep
it that way.
Very clean.
Front axle shot...also clean
Not over-restored underneath like many I have seen...but still very
presentable
and much better in my opinion than seeing mirror finish paint.
Hardware is all clean and properly finished.
Fenderwells are all painted as well and the fender hardware detailed.
Clean and totally solid
Oh and the sunroof...that big open sunroof...awesome!
The seats are done in the correct European cloth and they are very nice
and clean with no signs of wear.
Back seat is done to match of course.
Headliner is excellent
Here's a little better through-the-door shot showing the dash
Steering wheel is very cleanly restored
Accessory fuel gauge is a rarity.
Speedometer is the Euro version in Kilometers...it is the original one
to the car and at some point in it's past the MPH
equivalents were put on there...its a nice touch to see this feature
retained...it
keeps a little character to the car which is refreshing.
When all the history and past owner touches have been erased...it's a
little
sad.
The dash does feature some awesome period accessories!
The tachometer is simply dreamy!!
The Blaupunkt radio is pretty awesome as well!
Ashtray and glove box...
Single visor as original
Assist straps done in the seat material and the right aluminum hooks in
place.
Carpet is the proper German square weave with cloth binding.
Coco mats protect the rubber mats.
Under dash is very clean.
Coco mats out you can see the rubber mats...nice detailing to the pedal
assembly as well.
This was definitely a full and complete professional restoration!
Shifter and heater controls
Door jams are clean and well detailed.
Latches are clean
Door panels are well done.
Owners manual folder...
Owners manual and European dealer booklet
US dealer book too.
This is my favorite bit of literature...the Italy map with VW and
Porsche
dealer locations.
This is dated 1959 so it is a little newer than the car, but it is
awesome
just the same!
Here's a better shot of the speedometer...
Under the front hood is spotless as well.
Tool kit...
Nice detail to the hood latch.
Fuel tank is nicely painted and clean
Jack and fuel cap are clean...here you can see the wiring for the
accessory
fuel gauge.
Body tag is nicely restored to and installed with correct style rivets.
Spare tire well is very clean and well painted.
In closing this is truly an exceptional example.
You can find fault with anything if you look hard enough, this car
included,
but I think you will agree
after viewing the photos that it is a very very nicely restored car.
And in person it does not dissapoint.
