1951 VW Beetle Sunroof Sedan For Sale
And to get the question out of the way right off the bat...
YES, it is an original sunroof car...see the little "G"?
OK, with that out of the way lets continue the view.
The car is located here in California but was restored on the East
Coast
by a restorer known
for restoring cars for Ralph Lauren and others...the guy is seriously
good!
The impressive part about the restoration is that it was done over 10
years
ago and it still looks so fresh
you would think it was completed yesterday!
The black paint is mirror finish everywhere you look, very impressive
fit
and finish.
Correct bits used everywhere...no road rash or rock chips...very
minimal
use since completed.
Correct VW logo headlight glass
Round horn grilles...visible through the slots is the nicely detailed
early
Bosch horn
16 wheels with bias-ply tires.
Like new.
Paint and bodywork is superb...look at that reflection!!
Glass is excellent...front windshield has the Deluxe model aluminum
trim
Solid style VW logo
Correct early wiper arms with the "wire" style
Red tipped Hirschmann antenna
Aluminum hood handle and proper Wolfsburg crest
Thin grooved running board covers...correct for the split.
I suggested to the owner that he hack that silly center bar out of
there
and make the car look
like a newer model...but he decided not to.
(joke)
Gorgeous gorgeous paint...and being a black car you see everything.
Semaphore signals
"Crotch coolers"
Canvas sunroof cover
Let in the sun!!
These early models are called "tree-fold" ragtops as when they
are open, there are three folds.

Nice big opening ...I love these early sunroof cars.
Headliner is very well fit...truly the whole car is impressive.
Correct grooved sunroof handle
Seats are done in the proper materials

Rear seat has the bolster pillows
Tan rubber mats are a difficult find
Nice stitched leather rub pad on the center tunnel
Carpet is the proper German square weave wool stuff.
Fuel tap
Under dash is excellent
Bodywork is excellent even in the deep corners.
This car was originally located in Sweden where the early stuff seems
to
survive better than in other
European locations.
"Bat wing" steering wheel is superb
Dash is gorgeous
Telefunken radio has been fully restored and is operational
The details that knock me out are the smallest ones...in many placed
the
screws are lined up to match.
Handles and escutcheons are like jewelry!!
Rear luggage area is correct with the rails
Back of the seat is correct as well
Door panels are so nice and smooth...
Under the front hood is superbly detailed as well.
Original body tags were replated and re-installed with the proper rivets
Wiring is all the correct cloth covered stuff.
Original hood
Engine compartment is droolingly beautiful as well.
25 horse engine runs superb and was completely rebuilt as were all
components.
The engine date is within the same month of production as the body.
"T" air cleaner
Flat top distributor
Correct early fuel pump
"Star" coil.
"D" regulator.... all the right stuff.
Gorgeous level of detailing.
Crank start nut and rear tin.
No crank hole in the apron...the owner believes this is correct...any
ideas?
I did find a flaw...some paint wrinking on the fan shroud...that was
about
it.
Proper Kamax hardware used everywhere and the bolts all restored as
well.
