1964 21 Window Microbus For Sale

There is nothing quite like an early VW Bus...it's an automotive icon that is instantly recognizeable
and conjures up images of the 60's and beach life, surfing and all that is cool.
Its a time trip that just cant be matched by another make and model of car...period.
Oh sure...there are other great cars out there...but the the split screen VW Bus is in a class of it's own.

This example takes the cool factor of an early Bus and amplifies it 10 fold.
Its a 64 model, the "21 Window", the top of the line big boy Microbus with the sunroof and skylight windows.
It has received a full and complete restoration and a long list of improvements and upgrades.
It retains the classic look, yet has all the best modern updates that makes it a very attractive package
that will be enjoyable it today's world, yet still brings up the emotions of the past.

One of the great things about a Bus like this is that it is a collector vehicle that the whole family can enjoy.
An old Corvette might be fun, but you can only haul yourself, one passenger and maybe a bag of groceries around.
A Bus like this will haul the whole crew...maybe even some neighbors too.

The colors of this Bus are the classic Turquoise and Blue-White that are correct for the year and are
perhaps one of the prettiest combinations put on a Bus. The trimmings and details are pretty much all
factory...with the polished aluminum beltline trim and other flashy bits.
The suspension has been lowered obviously and the fittment of the Porsche alloy wheels give it a little hot rod appearance
yet still stay "in the family" and are the perfect choice for the "California Look" that just oozes out of this Bus.

Arrow straight body panels and excellent fit and finish make this a real stand out.

This long flat panel is perhaps one of the longest and flattest in automotive history and it takes
a lot of work to get it just right. I tip my hat to the bodyshop that performed this work...looks great.

Around the back we find that the bumpers are complete will all the right trims and the rear
window has been converted to the "Safari style" which allows for amazing flow through ventilation.
In fact the builder of this Bus made all windows as openable (except for the skylights), which is uncommon
but a very cool change. Its like a beach hut on wheels...the breeze can come through at all angles.
And everything latches shut for security and bad weather if needed.

Black California plates, a clean registration and absolutely gorgeous restored dealer plate frames on front and back!
Seriously these frames are worth probably $400 for the pair in this shape...just way too cool.

Here's a detail of the rear safari window.
This was never offerred from the factory like the front ones were...but it is a really cool touch.
Another very subtle, but very cool thing on this Bus is that all the windows have a very slight
green tint to them to match the factory tint on the skylight windows.
This plays off the paint color perfectly and really gives it a great look...not everybody catches it...but it's awesome.

All the pop out windows have the long "spoon" latches which allow for a very wide opening.
This is an earlier Bus thing that the owner used...the proper ones for 64 are shorter (and in my opinion nowhere near as cool)

The polished side step is another nice accessory.

This custom made roof rack is another subtle touch that most folks dont catch.
The original racks were longer and overhang the big sunroof opening by a couple feet.
Not wanting any blockage of the sun for the passengers, this rack was modified to fit the roof section
perfectly...a really nice touch.

The sunroof cover of course is like new and opens easily.

Great Bus.

The more you look, the more you see...details are everywhere.
Check out the mirror arms...and look carefully at the vent wing...the little "Nike swoosh" corner trim has been chrome plated.

European style headlight lenses give it a wonderful vintage look...the great paint colors, the polished trim and chrome emblem.
Its all like jewelry.

here's the front plate and matching frame.
Bumper guards have custom rubber trims to avoid paint chipping at the seam that is common on these Busses.

Lets look inside and see what's in there...I think you will like it.

This is a 9 passenger Bus with the split-bench front seat and full width center seat.
The materials are proper for the year, model and paint combo, but have been taken to the next level
with some extra touches to make it very unique. The "mesh" pattern vinyl of the door panels has been used
on the seating surfaces and special trim panls have been made to cover aears not normally upholstered.
The custom coco mats trimmed with matching vinyl give a great look to the floors
and seat stand areas.

Dash and controls are all very clean and well fitted.

Locking Gene Berg shifter is a very nice upgrade that reduces the throw of the shifter and allows for
the security of locking the vehicle in gear when parked.

Banjo style steering wheel is a really neat look.

Stock Balupunkt multi band radio is absolutley gorgeous...its all for show though as there is a modern audio system
hidden under the seat.

the stock dash clock...these clocks were uniqe to the Deluxe models only.

Here's the modern CD player and radio tucked underneath the gap under the front seat...pretty slick.

Door panels look great and have the proper chrome trimming and handles

The Blaupunkt speakers have been color matched so they blend in better...a nice touch and far better
than leaving them all black and having them stand out.

e
Headliner is well done in the pinpoint vinyl.

fresh pair box looks nice...rear vent has been chrome plated.

Here's a great touch...normally the bulkhead wall is left bare and looks a little crude
The builder had custom made door panels complete with trim made to match up with the factory door panels
to cover this area...check out the spare tire cover too...done the same way!!
The Hoogenboom badge here was originally on the body of the Bus and was the original dealership that handled the Bus in Rotterdam Holland

Under the mats is spotless by the way...

Drivers side door panel...look again how the speaker blends in...very subtle.

These little dome tweeters are a nice touch too and add quite a bit to the sound quality.

The notched window track part has been chrome plated too which is a great idea
as normally these are painted and get chipped up like mad from latching the window closed.
All new window felts and body rubber everywhere.

Clean

Again...the floors look great under the mats... a sign that things were done completely on this Bus...no stone left unturned.

Door latch has been chrome plated...screws too...another nice detail.

here you can see that bulkhead panel...looks so right this way...really good idea.

Beautiful speedometer...rebuilt, center disc chromed and the needle replaced with the early style clear needle.
This guy went nuts with the itty bitty things that make it a very special Bus.

Full width rear seat...excellent condition of course and more of that great natural fiber coco mat material very well fitted for the flooring.
Nice to see the right trim panel on the end of the seat frame too.
Grab handles have been color matched too which is another subtle change that just looks "right" when you look at the design of everything.

Bulkead panel has the proper shelf and some extra trimming as well.

Little chrome edge on the shelf here is something I have not seen before.

Nice trim panels below with speakers nicely fitted. This is a great spot for speakers like this as there is a natural
indentation in the metal here that the magnets fit into...and with the trim panel it looks all smooth and perfect.
No cutting into the body or anything nasty...good thinking.

Yes it's nice under the mat in back too.

Rear seat is done to match as well

proper under seat trim panel...hard to find these days!

Door panels are excellent...handles are chrome as is correct for a Deluxe

I love this shot...all those windows and that big sunroof...Awesome!!
You could probably talk him out of the color matched straw hat too if you buy the Bus !!

Jail bars are all in place...luggage rail as well

Hatch latch chrome plated as well.

Whoah...that's no 40 horse stocker in there is it?
This is a 2442cc Bernie Bergmann built screamer with an estimated 188 horsepower...yee haw!!

Full lfow oil system with auxillary cooler very nicely fitted in the engine compartment.

12 volt electrics of course

Big Weber carbs...not the most fuel efficient perhaps...but you wont have a string of angry
drivers behind you on the hills!

Porsche 911 style fan shroud and all of it polished and painted up show quality clean.
The Bus has been driven probably around 500 miles since completion.

Nice little light in the engine compartment...

Backside of the engine lid is clean

Ceramic coated exhaust system with tuck-away muffler...very slick and sounds great

Functional heater too with these ceramic coated performance heater boxes. Note the extra oil sump
and stainless braided lines.

The transmission is a full performance built box with all the heavy duty goods to handle the extra horsepower.
Gearing is as follows (for you techie folks) 3:88 ring and pinion, 3:78 1st, 2:17 2nd, 1:48 3rd and .89 4th gear.
Four wheel disc brakes with custom Wilwood 4 piston calipers...this baby stops!!

Underside is clean and nicely detailed.

Stainless steel Maganflow muffler.

Everything is painted body color underneath.

Clean and solid.

Wagens West 3" narrowed adjustable front beam with 2.5" dropped splindles, Porsche 944 hubs and rotors.
New KYB shocks as well...rides nice!

Splash pan is in place and looking tidy.

All new wiring in the Bus as well by the way...

Porsche alloy wheels are nicely detailed and polished and are wrapped with excellent performance tires on all four corners.

Here's a sneek peek shot through the rear wheel at the rotors...barely used... and 4 wheel disc brakes...cool
Its noce to have strong stopping ability when you are sitting so far forward in a vehicle...

So there you have it.
An extremely nice Bus with endless details and a very nice quality restoration.
Performance drivetrain and other upgrades make it fun to drive and free of the constipated performance that seems
to plaque most old Busses out there...yet you look at it and the classic style remains very well intact.
