Show Stopper 1961 Karmann Ghia Cabriolet For Sale
Classy color choice, top quality materials and workmanship, agressive stance,
wild performance motor
and a chassis that is as shiny and pretty as the top side of the car...impressive
package to say the least.
Pretty subtle which is what makes it so appealing...no wild bright colors
or body mods, just clean and proper.
A beautiful machine indeed.
The one shocking part of the car is the graphics...yes, this car has flames.
Dont see em? Neither did I at my first glance, but when the sun hits the
front end just right, they come alive.
The most subtle flame job on earth, done in pearl...it's awesome.
Unfortunately the sun wasnt shining when I took these photos so it doesnt
translate well on screen,
but if you look super close at this photo you can see the flames...its
wild.
Porsche alloys have been the dream wheel for Cal Look VW owners for years.
There is nothing quite as classy as these babies when they are chromed
out and detailed like this.
All the chrome is gorgeous on the car.
Wiper arms are chromed as well...nice touch.
The top is a deep chocolate brown which looks simply fantastic against
the tan paintwork.
Excellent fit to the top as weel, and it's made from German Stayfast cloth
like the old Mercedes cars.
The swoopy swan neck mirrors.
The rear wheel tuck in tightly in the fenders...an agressive stance indeed.
Glassy smooth paint and bodywork.
Excellent chrome work, cool short European style bumper guards keep the
look clean and uncluttered.
Vintage California plates.
Beautiful.
Check out these custom jack plugs... ever so cool.
Oh...and jam your head down under the car and it's as perfect as the top.
The chassis and suspension components were poweder coated in this color...extremely
durable and easy to clean.
Some suspension detail...crazy.
Under the engine...
Ohmygod!!! a spot of dirt!
(it'll wipe right off though...)
Front suspension detail.
Narrowed CB Performance front beam features disc front brakes drilled for
the Porsche lug pattern.
Dropped spindles keep it in the weeds without sacrificing much of the ride.
Opening the rear deck is a nice suprise as well...
2165cc performance engine has been detailed to a very high level.
48 ida Weber carbs have been opened up and match ported to the manifolds
and heads.
The velocity stacks are from Jack Sachette.
How gorgeous is this?
Don Zig Magneto fires the spark that ignites the fuel pumped through those
huge Webers.
The 44 X 37 1/2 stainless valves open up in the CB Performance 044 heads
with Scat 1.25 rockers.
Cima 90.5 pistons and cylinders with Total Seal rings, Stainless steel
Scat rods spin on a Scat flange crank
counterweighted and balanced and blue printed. AS 41 case. Webcam 86 camshaft,
Kennedy clutch with Diken disc.
Trans is a Ray Medrano built street solid axle gearbox with billet side
plates, super diff, 4:12 ring and pinion and a very streetable
gear ratio of 3:78 1st, 2:06 2nd, 1:48 3rd and 1:04 4th gears.
The exhaust is a ceramic coated header from A1 with a stainless muffler
by the same maker, polished to a mirror shine.
Oh...and dont forget the Berg deep sump and the full flow oil system with
external filter (also polished like jewelry).
Very nice finish panels in the sides of the engine compartment.
Awesome...and oh yeah...the battery has been moved out of the engine compartment
for a really clean look.
Very nicely detailed everywhere you look...check out the chrome deck lid
latch...nice sanitary wiring too.
Close that lid...still as pretty as you could ever dream of.
Here's a detail shot of the polished stainless performance muffler by Tiger
at A1.
OK...lets get out from under it and take in the beauty again... ooohhh---aahhh.
The nose.
Here's a nice detail...original Hella logo headlight rings.
OK...the car isnt "perfect" and leave it to me to be the jerk
to point out a flaw.
There is a paint bubble starting right next to the ridge on the leading
edge of the hood.
Nostril vents are powder coated in silver...subtle but nice...
Under the hood is show detailed too of course...very nice.
Excellent paint finish on all panels inside and out.
Matching detailed Porsche alloy spare.
Check out the detailed horns and the gorgeous smooth nose from the inside.
Fuel tank has a mirror quality paint finish.
And this fuel cab is the smoothest looking thing Ive ever seen...awesome...
And the interior is breathtaking as well...clean and simple but as classy
as can be.
Gorgeous seat upholstery
Matching handbrake boot.
Check out the billet aluminum knob on the seat release too...really nice
detail.
Oh...and German square weave carpets of course...only the best!
Really nicely done door panels...wow!
Hurst trigger shifter, billet aluminum shift knob, heater knob and roller
pedal.
Nice detailing again.
Handles are super cool too...
Rear seat.
Headliner is superbly fit.
Beautiful workmanship.
The detailing on the gauges is really nice too...
The odometer is at 00000... mileage on the car since completion is less
than 50 miles.
Its been trailered to all the VW events it has attended (just a few) and
it's pulled home the serious trophies.
It has yet to have been magazine featured, but was scheduled to be a cover
car for VW Trends which has now gone belly up.
A very very well done car...perhaps overdone by some folks standards, but
if you want to
go for the best, this is the level of restoration you have to reach to
be there.
It was finished in July of 2004, so everything is super fresh, and it's
really never been driven.
This would be a great car to take to a season of events to show competitively
and then let er rip
and pile the miles on it and have some serious fun.
It is just plain amazing.
And for the money, you could never build one to match it.
