1966 VW Beetle Convertible For Sale

This is a great little driver.
Black plate California car, very stock and proper.
One outside respray in the original red...original paint on the dash and inside.
Car shows it's age a bit but is still presentable.
Interior and top are a bit worn but intact.
Some minor rust issues, but nothing major (this is California after all!)

Its a good runner and driver as it is or a great start for a restoration.
I kinda like it the way that it is...not so nice that you need to worry about
scratching it or having the kids spill their Slurpee's in the back.|
Just drop the top and head for the beach.

The first impression is a good one, flying down the road it looks quite sweet.
As you get up closer you start to see the chips and scratches and things like that. Some careful touch ups and
a little love here and there and it can be greatly improved without having to dive into a full restoration.

One of the big "cool factor" items with this car is that it is so stock and un-altered.
Its not been lowered or modified in any strange way. It has a decent air of originality to it.

Front end is nice and straight and the hood and fenders fit well.

Black California plates are original to th car.

Original German headlights.
You can see the stone chips in the paint here...just normal wear and tear.

Antenna has a little patch, chrome on the mirror has aged.

Glass is all good and the chrome around the window frames is pretty decent.

Nice straight car overall.
Proper 66 wheels and trim rings.

Here's a sizeable paint chip.

1966 was the first year for the 1300cc engine and the only year in the US that received this 1300 emblem on the engine lid.

Title is clear, tags were expired at the time of the photos...I will check with the owner on this.

Original Hella taillight lens

Some more paint chipping.. a little careful touch up would make this look much better.

Nice straight car though...look at that reflection!

Here's a couple small blisters poking through on the passenger side door.

Karmann body badge is in place.
By the way...all VW Beetle Convertibles have bodies built by Karmann...so this does not indicate a special edition or anything.
(I get a lot of questions about that...)

Wheel detail...tires are black, mostly round and hold air...actually they are in decent shape.

Here's another paint flaw/scratch

OK...lets dig in even closer and look inside and under this machine.

Apron looks original and very straight.

Spare tire well is untouched and original.

Jack and handle are in place.
Alarm horn mounting gets in the way of the spare tire...so it lays up on top of the tank.

There's the spare.
Hood looks nice and straight and appears to be the original.

Fiberborad wiring cover is still intact.

Hood is goood!!

Beauty shot...

Engine is a good running stocker and is reasonably clean

Mechanical advance distributor and a 12 volt alternator conversion are the onle real diversions
from factory equipment. Pretty clean in here too. Runs smooth and the car drives well.
It doesnt have that "new car" tightness to it, it feels a bit worn in, but not worn out.

Engine lid is missing the rain catcher that is normally in place on these convertibles.

Underside of the engine is pretty dry.

Drivers side floor pan shot shows a couple small spots of weakness to the rear edge and just a couple
tiny spots on the support rail.

Passenger side shows some patching under the battery and a little more weakness to the bottom edge of the support rail.
Everything feels pretty solid from above, but attending to these areas would be a nice improvement.

Straight and proper in the fender wells up front.

Just a tiny bit of rust beginning to show here.

Here at the back of the channel looks solid.

Nice and sound at the bumper mount areas.

And back up to the pretty stuff...

Dash is original paint and appears pretty un-altered. Radio is not original but looks to have been installed
without modification to the dash.
Original rubber floor mats are hanging in there but are worn.

Original mirror/dome light are present...mirror finish is delaminating along the edges.

Its the correct original mirror though...

Odometer reads 12,600 miles at the time of these photos.
Actual mileage on the car is unknown, but it would be safe to guess that it has turned over at least once.
(but I cant imagine it has turned over twice...)

Under dash is still pretty clean for all original finish.
The original locking hood latch is in place.

Carpet has been replaced at some point. Speakers are mounted up front here.

Original door panels show a bit of age but arent too bad for being 42 years old.

Drivers side seat back has broken down a bit and will need a bit of repair internally.
This is a pretty common thing to have happen over time with this era of seat.
The upholstery is holding up OK, just the one spot on the seat bottom.

Rear seat is in fine shape

Rear floor area.

Headliner is pretty wrinkly.

But it is holding in there...no big holes or anything.

The top is showing some age but is intact and doesnt have any holes.

The original fabric top boot is still with the car...pretty worn, but it is here.

There is also a well used nose bra.

Door jams look solid.

Glass is good.

Hop in and head for the beach!!
What a great summer car...and great on gas too!

So...there you have it.
Its a good runner and driver that still looks respectable and has a decent air of originality to it.
Not too cherryl, so you can feel comfortable in it and not too bad so the neighbors wont look at you funny when you pull in the driveway.
Just enough little opportunities for little fix-up jobs to make it fun to tinker with while you drive it.
Fun no matter how you look at it!
