This Southern California 23 Window is gorgeous.
The full restoration has just been completed and it is ready to come back out in the world
in all it's original glory.

This is a very rare and desirable Bus.
Being a 1956 model, it was built just after the "barndoor era" , but still at the
Wolfsburg VW factory. There are many details that differ from the "Wolfsburg Busses" to those built
at the Hannover plant. Looking up the serial numbers on this one, we believe it to be
the very last 23 window deluxe Bus to be built at Wolfsburg...or at the very least, the latest Wolfsburg Bus
known to exist at this time.

The interior is all fresh and was done by the masters at West Coast Classics.
They did the seats and door panels to original specs and they look fantastic.
The center seat is the proper "6 leg" version
The coat hooks, window latches, armrests, ash trays, grab handles and trim are all as they should be.

The assist straps have been done nicely.

Headliner is in the right materials

Looks great!

The correct clear needle speedometer was completely restored and was set back to zero
The Bus currently has around 30 miles on it...it is seriously like new.

All window rubbers and seal have been replaced of course, glass is excellent

Fresh air box looks superb with all new screws and clean details.

Kick panels are excellent, door jams are clean, floors are clean and painted well.

Proper dash clock and early style grab handle on the dash.
Safari front windows have been added.
Looks like the correct early grooved door handles are in place.

Rear panels and carpet are cleanly trimmed and the "jailbars" are all in place on the
rear windows and back hatch.

The 36 horse engine dates to 1955 and is detailed to the max!
It has been checked out internally and was in good shape so it was just serviced, totally re-sealed and
all of the exterior bits restored to like new condition.
It runs and drives well.

Very very clean underneath!!

Battery area is very clean and detailed with the correct 6 volt battery with cover in place.

Front end is clean and tight.

Fender wells and underside are all cleanly detailed and sprayed with a durable textured finish.

Super clean under here!

Splash pan is in place under the controls.

All the proper body and bumper trim is in place and in superb condition.

The paint and body is very very nice on this Bus.
I would not call it "flawless" but it is still very clean indeed.

Sunroof was done in the nice stayfast canvas material and in a matching color to the Chestnut brown top.

Wheels have been painted in chestnut brown and are wrapped in brand new Firestone bias ply tires
that have been made in the original vintage molds.

It really is a pretty Bus.
The colors of Chestnut brown over Sealig Wax red are correct for the Bus and for the year.

This is a dream machine.

Many Busses out there have questionable histories it seems.
With values climbing as they have the past 5 years or so, there are a lot of
"clones" and crazy things going on.  It is important to make sure you are buying the "real deal".
The photo above shows this Bus when found.
It was a very complete but fairly neglected example, but it was indeed the genuine article.

The Bus did undergo some welding during the restoration, but as you can see in this photo...some of the more
commonly rotted spots were very nice on this Bus...check out that original floor!

Even the cargo floor was pretty darn solid!

The restorer wanted to do it right though and no rusty area was left untouched.
Original panels were sourced wherever possible and high quality reproduction panels were used
when the originals were not available.  The end result is a sold and sound body and chassis,
not one that has been quickly patched and filled with bondo.
Nothing to hide here on this one...it was well done.
