1959 VW Single Cab Transporter
One of the most beloved models of the VW line are the "working class" trucks.
This 1959 single cab is about as pure and unmolested as you will ever find.
Now it has lead a life and has been used as a truck should be, but it has not been abused
and the small dings and scratches are a testament to its life on the road.
One of the things that attract me most to this truck is that it has not been fooled with.
It has been carefully preserved and mechanically fully rebuilt to factory specs
but all the cosmetic bits are untouched...the bumpers, wheels, hubcaps, etc
they all retain the factory finish and nothing detracts from that pure original aura that the truck gives off.
The paint is all original and has been polished and preserved, all the deep corners cleaned
every surface carefully treated to clean, preserve and protect so that it remains this way for years to come.
There are a few dents here and there that add some character
and that reflection in the original dove blue paint is impressive,
No clear coat, no repaints or touch ups...what you see is EXACTLY what it is...and what it is
is rock solid and beautiful inside and out.
Such a neat old truck!
They are truly only original once...and finding a clean truly all original
workhorse like this is a rare opportunity indeed.
Never undercoated, still rock solid with the original primer underneath,
no rot, just surface aging as expected from years of use. This has all been cleaned
and lightly oiled to protect from further deterioration.
The owner has provided some incredibly detailed photos of the truck to show
it in the best detail possible. It is really an impressive survivor
Floors are very solid
Bed is super solid and untouched.
Surface rust perhaps in spots but what I love about this one is that there are no mysteries
nothing to hide under shiny paint or undercoating...it is all as pure as can be.
Look at that shine!
Like your favorite vintage blue jeans... they just fit so right!
I love this pair of shots as they show the factory spot weld dimples that
most restorers out there totally ignore and smooth over.
One of the trademark details of an all original example that makes it so endearing.
The engine compartment is very clean and that engine has just recently been
fully and professionally rebuilt by a German master mechanic that has been working with
VWs since the 1950's!
It runs truly superb and is turn key ready to go anywhere...slowly.
New battery, new cables, excellent.
The transmission and gear reduction boxes have been upgraded slightly to a full synchro unit
from a 1963 model for improved driving experience. All new brakes, shocks, etc.
Mechanically this is absolutely all fresh and well sorted and ready to carry you and your cargo
for decades with reliable operation.
Back deep in the fuel tank locker under the bed and behind the treasure chest
it all remains clean and original and impressively solid.
Super solid and untouched!
Underneath the front floors is also all original finish.
No welding or repairs ever and never undercoated when new.
Splash pan is in place and also retains its original finish.
Kamax German original hardware...its all so pure!
The lightest bit of surface rust but no signs of penetration or any repairs.
If you are someone with a history with these vehicles you will know how rare it is to find one in this state.
Solid solid solid
During the rebuild of the transmission and gear reduction boxes.
This was done to exacting standards and great attention was put into doing the job right.
Note the use of the original Kamax German bolts as an example.
Here is a shot of the engine after rebuild.
Rebuilt carburetor...spotless
Interior is gorgeous!!!
Seat has been redone in the correct grey vinyl by Lenny at West Coast Classics.
Dash and steering wheel are original and untouched.
Floors are clean and solid, original paint and dreamy.
Here is a better shot of the floor during the cleaning and detailing process.
M code tag shows the build date of December 23rd 1958.
Very solid truck, one of the best Ive seen.
Gumby says buy it!
In closing this is truly a wonderful truck.
Just enough pleasant patina to give you that sense of security that if you scratch it, you wont cry.
More than enough "old truck soul" that makes it the most amazing thing to look at.
Totally dialed in mechanically with EVERYTHING done so all you have to do is turn the key.
But first you've got to make the buy...
