The Legendary "Frenchy DeHoux" 67 Cal Looker

This is an old school Cal Look car, built by one of the guys that was truly "there" back in the early days of the Cal Look scene.
It was built about 10 years ago, has been used sparingly, and has remained garaged and properly cared for the whole time.
It now resides in Reno Nevada and is poised to trade hands to a lucky VW enthusiast somewhere on this spinning orb we call Earth
Is it you?

For anyone seriously involved in the West Coast VW Scene...I am sure the name Frenchy DeHoux rings a bell.
Based in Arizona, Frenchy has built a name for himself as being a real detail oriented enthusiast...in fact his nickname
"Dr Detail" certainly comes about naturally. He is a judge at many of the VW shows and is a heck of a nice guy.
Frenchy has a website up for him to share his creations and ultimate VW passions with people
Please visit http://www.frenchysrides.com

This is a car he built for himself...he built it his way with his attention to detail and he has a nice chronicle of the build at

In 2006, the car came back to Frenchy for the installation of this gorgeous power plant.
Tranny was done at the same time, Frenchy did all the work except building the box
and Competition Engineering did all balance and machine work, all parts for motor bought there as well.
2275cc motor new case, lightened flywheel, kuch loc disc, 82x94. 03E8 pauter cam,
040 stage 2 steve tims heads, redone at CE by Mike Fischer, Heads up Push rod tubes, choromly push rods,
5.5 h beams, Berg oem valve covers, 1.4 rockers, A-1 exhaust 1 5/8 with magnaflow.

Frenchy went thru the carbs and poliched the scat trak manifolds. 010 dizzy with 1844 pertronix.
Show quality with Frenchy's stamp of approval.
The Weber ida carbs came from the legendary Stutt Bee drag car (per Frenchy), some history!!
Solid mount tranny, Gene Berg traction bar, trans brace at bell housing, bilstein shocks, front sway bar is chrome.
Frenchy hand written receipt accompanies the car.

Very clean and it runs fantastic.
Transmission is a KCR street box, 3:88 r/p, super beetle main shaft, erco side cover and 1:48 3rd gear and 1:04 fourth.
Cruises on the freeway 3200 rpm at 65 mph with the 205/70 BFG tires on the back.
Extremely streetable car!!

Here is aa current shot of the bottomside of the engine...she is clean!

BRM wheels wrapped in excellent rubber.

Euro style bumpers, shaved turn signals, very clean and classic look and style.

Here's a better current day shot...as you can see it is still extremely clean.

Under the hood is well detailed and well kept.

Look at the ultra clean hood latch and peek in behind the spare to see the nice detailing.

Its a subtle look, but one that truly brings back memories of the 70's and the hot Cal Look
scene when it emerged in Southern California.

Its a turn key, ready to ride machine...well tuned and suprisingly fast!
If you have never driven a properly tuned performance Beetle like this...
you will be in for a serious treat. That neighbor with the flashy new Mustang in his driveway
will bury his head in shame when you blow his doors off in this simple little VW.

Gene Berg shifter, Empi GTV wood rim wheel, stock radio, Monster tach,
and a nice cluster of additional gauges. Carpet is pro-fit and looks great...interior is clean and tidy.

Headliner looks great...very well fit.

Seat upholstery is tightly fit and the seams all line up perfect.

Very clean.

Here is a copy of the Hot VW's Magazine feature on the car.
When it was originally built...the engine was a 1756cc unit as seen in the article...now it has a 2275cc stroker motor!
Yeee-haww!

The car has also been featured in a few of the VW books by Keith Seume...above are a couple pages.

This little line-up shows the magazines the car has been featured in...plus two books not shown!

This is a part of the spread from the French Magazine Super VW.

So if you are interested in buying a super clean, fanatically well built Cal Look Beetle with
a really strong performance drivetrain and an amazing history and long list of awards and magazine coverage...
you really cant go wrong with this one. Yes...you can find a 67 Beetle for less...but I guarantee it is less of a 67 Beetle.

Asking just
$22,500 obo
