1965 VW Dormobile Camper For Sale

During the 60's  when VW camper sales were booming worldwide
there were a large variety of conversion companies picking up some market share
to fill the demand. Perhaps one of the coolest ones (in my opinion) was that of
the Dormobile by Martin Waller LTD in England.
Their simplistic and very flexible seating design and the spectacular accordion pop top
with two fold out cots up top provided for far more sleeping space than a Westfalia
and provided headroom to allow for standing tall inside over the entire cargo area.

Very few of these Dormobile campers made it on to North American shores.

This one did come to North America and was originally delivered in Canada.
The story goes that the original owners of this camper even traveled to Woodstock in this Bus
although no photos follow the story.  It was sold to its second owner in 1991 and it remains with him today.
It is located in Canada about 20km away from the Washington state border.

The condition of the camper is really very nice.
It is not a fresh restoration but it has been well kept and still shows very nice.
Best of all it is a wonderfully solid example with amazing floors and underside.

The camper still has its very rare original Dormobile emblems as well as the originally installed
aluminum trim under the beltline that has a flexible chrome insert.

Here is a detail shot of the trim.
This is something I have not seen before but apparently it was delivered new with this trim in place.

Out back is a very good running stock single port engine still with 6 volt electrics and oil bath air cleaner.
Only upgrades being the mechanical advance distributor and Pertronix pointless ignition and an external oil filter and cooler.

Fram spin on oil filter in the engine compartment

Nice oil cooler mounted below

Up top the original Dormobile materials are present on the cots and pop top!

These two cots fold out to the center of the opening and provide surprisingly comfortable sleeping.
The vents in the roof as well as the cool windows give a very neat view of the world.

I have spent some time personally camping in a Dormobile and it is awesome!

The cabinetry in this conversion is all pushed to the back to allow for a fully open cargo area.

These vents pop open for ventilation and also provide some light

Love that original cot material!

When closed the cots are protected with the factory white vinyl wrap

Unwrap the vinyl covers and then fold out the cots!

On the left side of the photo are windows that allow for a great view outside.
The current owner has a curtain in place and behind that a solar panel to operate the 12 volt electrics for the interior
(which includes a fridge).

Original cooker inside as well!

Windows are tinted.

Dash is all stock and unmodified , even the original radio is in place.
Added instruments are mounted on top of the dash, but no holes.
A more modern radio also has been added, but set on the parcel tray.
The owner was very cautious about making any modification that could not be easily reversed.

Being a Dormobile from new, it has the full belly pans like a sunroof deluxe model or double door panel.

Front seats are the 1/3 2/3rd formation.
Very nice condition.

The windshield glass on one side has a chip that has been repaired but is still visible.
The window rubber needs replacement as well.

Inside is in great shape.

The floors are amazing!

Very solid underneath.

The original "Dormatic" seating is all still here.
These work in amazing ways.
The seats can be set facing forward, or facing each other. They can also be folded flat to make a bed
or folded to the side to allow for cargo loading!

Cool Canadian Auto Club badge.

Great Bus!

Wheels are painted two tone to match. Tires are good.

Body is nice and straight on this Bus.

Odometer reads 96,000 miles

Here are some underside shots so you can see how solid it is.

And another.

Here are the seats facing each other.
There is a table I believe that mounts on the strip along the side wall.

Sink, stove and cabinets

Facing forward.

Nice and straight down the sides.

Nice!

Excellent heavy duty rubber

Ok...the unit on the left is not original, it is a 12 volt fridge that works off the 12 volt battery in the back that is charged by solar.
This is all completely separate from the factory 6 volt electrics on the Bus.

Passenger side door shows a couple of small paint blisters on the lower edge.
Owner has pulled the door panel, cleaned and treated the interior with POR 15 so it does not get worse
but the blisters remain.

More amazing floors

Rockers look fantastic

Love those crazy seats!

Here in this shot you can see the solar panels through the roof windows.
Again...no modifications made, easy to put back to 100% stock

Oh...deep oil sump on the engine as well

In closing this is a nice clean example of a very rare original Dormobile
Its a tough unicorn to catch...this is something special!
