1959 VW Single Cab Transporter For Sale

This is a very clean and fun mild custom single cab that is located in
Southern California.  The truck recently came over from Hawaii and it definitely is a looker.

The truck was stripped down to bare metal for the restoration
and any rusted areas were replaced with the correct stamping sheet metal.

The paint colors are very attractive and the overall finish is quite nice.

The two tone split at the belt line is accented by a matching stripe
and the window frames and bumpers are all done to match.

15" X 6" genuine Porsche wheels on all four corners
and a very tasteful level of suspension drop.

Color matched emblem with center mount antenna to clear the Safari windows.

Its a sweet looking hauler for sure.

Well sorted and a smooth runner and driver.

The truck was built to be used, not a trailer queen.
The bed had been treated with a heavy duty bed liner material so you can actually haul stuff with it.

Sweet

Great rubber all the way around

The taillights are 1962 models rather than the original small glass 59 units.
Better visibility with these of course.

Still the proper bullet front turn signals up front.

Here is a small paint crack on the rear apron under the engine.

Wolfsburg West reproduction mirrors.

Backs and top edge of the side gates have been sprayed with the tough bed liner material
that will help reduce scratching and damage with use.

Body is overall quite straight looking down the sides.

Love those polished "Fuchs" wheels.

Wolfgang Safari windows are a must-have for cruising on a warm sunny day.

Rear bumper guards look to have been mounted with a
carriage bolt through the guard rather than internally as original.

Rear bumper lower edge has been trimmed at some point for a different exhaust.

The bed liner finish under the paint wraps around the edges of the bed and side gates for ultimate protection.

Some rough finish work to the bottom edge of the cargo side rocker panel.

Here is a detail shot showing the finish on the edges of the panels along the bed.
It is rough, but rough by design, not by poor finish or anything.
Nice polished stainless bolts hold the gates on to the body.

The full bed panel on the truck was replaced and as a result, the metal is super straight.
These truck beds are known for taking a crazy beating, so to see one ad straight and solid as this one is quite the treat.

This finish is super durable!

Even the panel at the front end of the bed looks perfectly straight.

These are massive beds!
You can haul a full 4X8 sheet of plywood back here and having access from all angles is a real treat with the
drop down bed sides.  Very versatile and very fun.

Fold them all flat and it is like the ultimate workbench on wheels as well.

The under bed cargo area has also been lined with the same durable finish as above.

A custom aluminum fuel tank replaces the original .

Nice box full of manuals and spare parts included.

Even a new in the wrapper deep oil sump from Empi.

The heavy rubber cargo mat keeps things quiet down below
and under that mat looks solid and clean.

Lets peek underneath and see what is going on here!

Nice to see the factory splash pan fitted under the pedals and controls.

Under the engine looks very clean and dry.

Looks like some patching done underneath the battery area.

IRS rear suspension conversion is a wonderful upgrade to these old trucks.
Transmission is a 1973 Type 1 gearbox with a 4:37 ring and pinion for highway hauling.
944 Porsche disc brakes with braided hoses.

New steering box and tie rods, dropped spindles with disc brakes up front.

Engine has just recently been serviced and sealed with new pushrod tubes and O rings.

Truck drives and handles nice...a vast improvement over the stock factory set up when it comes to handling
and the four wheel disc brakes are a welcome upgrade over the factory four wheel drums.

Very solid underneath.
If there was a rusty section, it was replaced.

IRS rear suspension conversion seems well done.

Out back is a complete rebuilt 1835cc engine featuring
a German AS21 dual relief case tapped for full flow oiling.
Standard German crankshaft and connecting rods.
New Mahle main and Rod bearings, Silverline cam bearings, Engle 100 camshaft
AA Performance 92mm pistons and cylinders.
Hardened lifters, 30mm oil pump, exterior oil cooler,
Rebuilt dual port heads with Scat springs, Empi rocker shaft kit.
40mm Kadron carbs on Kaddie Shack intake manifolds.

MST serpentine belt system, aluminum oil breather and coil mount.

009 Distributor, very clean case and engine tins.
12 volt electrics with alternator.

Now lets peek into that interior...

Very clean inside with a lot of nice subtle custom touches that really make it unique.

Kick and door panels are done in ivory and are very clean.

Underneath the front mat is a sound deadener material to keep road noise down
and the edge of the floor and step are treated in the same durable bedliner material out back.

Two tone paint job on the dash is a really sweet touch.
I did notice that the fuel gauge was not working during my inspection by the way...

Rear view mirror

Vintage style modern audio system with plug in for aux connections.

Safari tabs and cleanly welded and smoothed in.

Gene Berg shifter

Speaker mounted with bolts through the dash grilles
(no holes drilled)

Nice looking set up overall.
I love the two tone on the dash, it really brightens things up.

Church keys mounted behind the seat on both sides for easy grabbing

Roof panels look great in gloss ivory

Very smooth treatment to the back wall with body color painted smooth panels that make the rear window seem flush.

Deluxe horn push on the steering wheel

She's a pretty little pick-em-up for sure.

In close this is a nice truck.
Its not flawless by any means and it does have some personal choices by the builder that might not
be for everybody, but it is well kept, fully sorted and ready for some fun weekend cruising and local shows.
