1957 23 Window Deluxe Microbus Project For Sale
This 57 model 23 window is in need of a full and extensive restoration,
but the bones are there
and it is most certainly restorable. Take it on a bit at a time, or
dive
in head first...it is a wise investment
and will be a fun project. The rear fenderwells were cust out for
bigger
wheels, the body has some dents and damage
and there is a fair bit of rust in the body as well. The owner has many
of the parts for it...but not all of them.
Here is a list of included parts...
Complete Ragtop Assembly, All Glass (except for windshields
& rear window) ,
Belt Line Aluminum Trim, Rear Apron, Correct Pressed Bumpers,
Headlights,
Taillights, Speedometer, Clock,
Front & Rear Seats (no center seat), non-running 36hp Engine,
proper
Split-Case Transaxle.
So there are a few parts you will have to hunt down like the center
seat,
engine lid and some details
but the major important stuff is there. It is a genuine 23 window model
too, not a roof clip job, which is very important.
The Bus currently does not have a title, but one can be arranged in
fairly
short notice.
The history of the Bus is clean though, it is a legitimate deal.
The battery side corner is rusty down low...there is some noteable rust
in the roof as well.
This is the worst of the roof rust on the passenger rear corner...this
will take some skilled metal work
but there are many folks out there capabple of doing the job and there
are many replacement panels
available now that make repairs easier than ever to undertake.
The drivers side has a bit of rust as well, but not as bad as the
passenger
side.
The sunroof assembly is complete, which is a major plus!
The Bus was originally Chestnut Brown and Sealing Wax Red, which is a
fantastic
color combo.
The nose of the Bus has had some body damage but it is not terminal.
Really not too bad, and looking at the seam here it also doesnt look
too
bad in the rust department either.
This is all workable I believe...I dont think replacement sheet metal
would
be needed for the nose.
The drivers side rocker panel also looks reasonably solid for such a
project.
Some rust in the belly pans, but I have certainly seen worse!
Passenger side rocker is weak and the belly pans on this side have a
bit
more rust...
but if you have been looking at many of these, I am sure you have seen
ones with
major gaping holes or nasty backyard repairs. This one is a bit
rusty...but
you can see
what you are getting...nobody has covered over anything or tried to
hide
the rust...what you see is what you get!
Overall the body seems reasonably straight...other than the dent in the
nose, I see no signs of any serious collision damage.
Inside things are pretty much stripped out, but you can see the
original
paint color and even some shreds of the interior.
The original clear needle speedometer is there...
No radio or ashtray...but the owner has a clock for it.
Looks like a couple of switch holes have been added to the lower edge
of
the dash, but otherwise un-cut.,
Some rust in the floors as you would expect...
Wiring is present...
Original door panels on the front doors...
Looks like the sunroof handle is missing, but all the sliders and bows
are all there.
Parcel tray is here...owner has the front seat frame for it as well as
the back seat (but no center)
The owner has all the skylight window glass and all the pop outs
too...no
windshield glass or rear hatch glass
but the hard to find corner windows are here.
So...yeah...she needs some lovin, but she deserves it.
Picture what it will look like completed... make the dream a reality!
