1974 VW "Sun Bug" Convertible For Sale

In the 1970's, as the Japanese cars started taking away market share from VW,
Volkswagen marketing folks came up with several "Limited Edition" models to hopefully attract more customers.
These special models are now becoming the hot property for collectors world wide.

The Sun Bug was a US and Canada only model and was available as a Sun Roof Sedan, or a Convertible as you see here.
Here is a link to a little more info on the Sun Bug and the great SE Beetles website that lists all the Special Edition VWs through the years.

(by the way...the sedan shown there is one we sold through our website a few years back...details HERE)

Anyway...this is the car you came here to see. I think this is one of the nicest Sun Bug Convertibles out there.
It is certainly the nicest one I have seen! It is an original California car, extremely solid and rust free...never
any welding and never any wrecks. It has just received a very high quality restoration by a fanatical VW restore and mechanic in the LA area
and it came out phenomenal.

Fresh showroom appearance from all angles.

Top quality paint and bodywork and painted in the correct Sun Bug Gold.

The top is one of the nicest fitting convertible top I think I have ever seen...
WOW this is sweet!

Bumpers are the originals that have been freshly re-chromed.

Brand new tires on the proper "sport" wheels.
All the center caps and little lug nut caps are in place.

Chrome is excellent, fit and finish is superb.

No stone chips or damage...the restoration is extremely fresh.

Even under the bumper she is clean and tidy.

Even clean in the gass-hole!

Karmann body badge

Bodywork is arrow straight.

Gorgeous

The engine has been freshly rebuilt and not only is it impressively clean,
it runs absolutely fantastic...this car drives like a dream!

Under the engine lid is spotless

Really tidy engine room and the engine is completely stock and proper with all the
proper bits and bobs.

New "tweeter" pipes.

Underside of the engine is excellent!

The owner is just getting ready to spray some fresh undercoating underneath so it all looks
new and proper...but these photos show it as it is "before" the undercoat.
Extremely solid, no rust, no repairs.

Even under the battery is solid!

Very nice...truly show-worthy.

Lets look under the nose and see what is in there.

In the bag is a brand new boot for the top.
Trunk liner is all new and is very clean.

Very nice.

These square wheel weights are the ones only Wolfsburg installed...original 1974 tire on this wheel in incredible shape.

Back outside, sitting in the California sun

The interior is all freshly redone and is in superb condition.

Production date sticker in the door jam.

Padded steering wheel was a special Sun Bug item, as was the "Rosewood" woodgrain dash

Odometer reads 80k miles. Miles since the restoration and engine rebuild is perhaps 50 miles.
Its all new.

Period Kraco radio is not original, but sure fits the look well.

Glovebox is still all fuzzy inside.

Special Sun Bug only shift knob has been nicely refinished.

All new carpets and rubber mats, and these Coco Mats look perfect in the car.

Headliner is super clean and tight.

Excellent.

Rear seat is all new as well.

Very clean and showroom fresh looking inside

Original dash pad does have a couple cracks. These could easily be covered with a dash mat, but the builder
decided to leave it as it is to show the originality and to avoid fitting one of the cruddy aftermarket pads.

Visors are new

Window rubbers and seals are all new.

Door jams are very clean.

Another back seat shot
