1955 Beetle Deluxe Sedan
Im sorry for the color mix up on this shot...
The taillights are 56-61 models, bumpers are very clean aftermarket
units.
Registered with year of manufacture California plates.
Bullet front turn signals seem slightly out of character for a 55...as
is the lack of semaphore signals, but it is all thought to be original
as you see it..
It has the look of a 56 at first glance but as you dig in deeper you
see
the 55 and earlier model attributes.
The production date is 7-1-1955 and it was originally delivered to
Scandanavia.
How that blends with the US Serviceman's info...Im not too sure...but
many
"grey market" cars were brought over in the early years..
Early style flat top gas tank with large diameter filler cap.
Proper H pattern apron.
Spare tire tool kit is a nice touch.
A little surface rust in the spare tire well but appears very straight
and solid.
Proper early 4 tab hood.
Wolfsburg crest and Volkswagen script emblem
Paint has some chips and scratches and some fade as well...pretty
convincing
original paint look to it
so much so that the owner is not sure if it has been resprayed at any
point
or not.
I dont think it is quite honestly
I have not seen it up close myself to verify...only through photos and
phone.
Nice wide whitewalls on all four corners as well as the spare.
Later model trim rings dress up the wheels a bit.
Some pitting to the chrome in spots.
Wood slat roof rack looks great on the car.
Single tip exhaust.
The 36 horse engine was rebuilt several years ago but only about 100
miles
ago according to the owner and it runs and drives very well.
Exhaust tip is from a later model...but just clears the proper early
rear
apron without the cutouts.
A couple drops of oil on the bottom, but still quite clean.
Transmission is the original split case variety and it shifts smoothly
and is reported to be
quite sound with no gear pops or noises.
The chassis of the car looks to be extremely solid.
Just a layer of surface rust...but no holes! Awesome!
Nice looking car with a great historic feel to it.
The interior is mostly original and showing it's age, but the car is
well
equipped with rare accessories.
Just visable past the bat-wing steering wheel is a speedometer with
trip
meter!
Also the speaker grille with clock is a very valueable accessory as
well.
Front seats are quite tatty but are the proper 55 and earlier models.
Rear seat is original upholstery...but in quite poor shape
Headliner appareas to be the original...showing it's age to be sure,
but
still hangin in there.
Accessory passenger visor.
Front seats without the sheepskins...they need a little help.
A fresh set of seat covers would do wonders.
Awesome accessory VDO dash clock and a grear Motorola radio.
Also check out the cigar lighter under the dash and the wicker parcel
tray.
Glove box pull tab handle is a great accessory and this European
dealership
Saint Christopher emblem is very cool.
Original Empi style door pulls.
Owners manual is included as well as a great trouble light and the bulb
and fuse holder.
So...thats about all I have on the car at the moment.
Since it's not a car I have seen up close, there are still a few
questions
about it, but I must say it sure looks
like an extremely solid car and the accessories are very exciting
(especially
those original Foxcraft skirts)!
Good runner and driver as it sits, or spend a little time and money
making
the car look even better.
If it were me, I would re-do the interior so the wife wouldnt be afraid
of sitting in there
and then do a little detailing and upgrading on the exterior and
trunk/engine
compartment areas and
just leave it at that.
Asking just
$12,500 obo
