1970 Bay Window Bus

This is a mild, yet very wild Bus that the one of the crew members at KCW recently cranked out in his off time.
Starting with a very solid and slightly worn original paint Kombi
he set out for some extreme lowering and a slight fashion adjustment and ended up
with a very unique Bus indeed.

The original paint was buffed up and left as is all except for the roof and bumpers which were painted an anthacite grey.
The rain gutters and dash panle were painted sealing wax red for just a little touch of color.

The Porsche "Twist" wheels were painted to match and are tucked it very neatly and discreetly into the fender wells.

Getting a Bus down this low is no easy task.
The suspension work done here is nothing short of epic.
The  front was dropped about 7 inches with custom wheel tubs and an adjustable ball joing beam.
The rear suspension drop included raining the whole engine and trans up 3" into the body.
Four wheel disc brakes, swing axle transmission now...ball joint front end.

The interior is nicely done in a fun brown with plaid inserts.
If you look close at the base beneath the drivers seat, you can see the 3 inch support welded on and painted
and the thinner seat cushion so you arent mashed into the headliner.

The seats and panels are very cool and quite nicely done.

The red piping picks up nicely on the red rain gutters...

Headliner is all new, as are the window rubbers too.

Door panels done to macth.
There is still just a bit of rust under the mat up here...not heavy, but just a bit.
The area under the battery is a little weak as well, but the rest of the body is
reportedly very solid indeed.

I live the upholstered speaker boxes and the matching spare wheel cover.

Looks pretty normal back here...

Until you lift the carpet and you can see that the floor has been raised up 3 inches to allow for clearance
of the raised engine and suspension.
Nice little storage boxes have been fitted at either side.

Good place to stash your valueables!

The nice thing about these little filler boxes is that they bring the floor in back properly level so
if you were to want to do some camping, it keeps everything nice and level.

The engine is a stock rebuilt 1600cc unit that runs fine.
It took them quite some time to get the shifter dialed in and working in all gears.
Ive been told they have it worked out and it shifts smoothly through all gears.

I like it...it's not loud, bright and flashy...it is humble and simple
and punked down to tarmac skimming levels that just give it that super "hard" look.

The builder was not new at this sort of modification...he is a professional
so this is not some backyard hack job.
I'd be willing to bet that you could drain your wallet pretty fast paying full pop to have this work done!

The deeply narrowed beam up front means you can turn the darn thing with those fat Porsche wheels.
The disc brakes on all four corners means you can stop short of having the back bumper of that pick up truck
in front of you, come through the windshield.
The stocker 1600cc engine means reliability and reasonable fuel economy
And all those nifty plaid seats means you can haul your whole crew around with you!

The Bus is currently located in California by the way.
But world wide shipping is most certainly available.

In the end we have one VERY unique package at a very realistic price.
It would be quite hard to re-create it for less money...that is for sure!
