1979 Custom Beetle Convertible Show Stopper

The owner of the car bought it from a neighbor in 2003 and initially started out with a restoration in mind.
As plans often do, things changed and in the end the car is a full on nut and bolt ground up rebuild
with detailed suspension, endless custom touches and a performance drivetrain (and more).
Note the 1956-1961 taillights (that have LED bulbs for brightness!)

As the build was going on, the owner decided to try to blend the lines between the years and models
and to pick the best design elements from those years and incorporate them into one car.
Adding to that a good bit of creativity, some concepts borrowed from the Hot Rod world
and a fat checkbook to make it all a reality.
There is a TON of time and money invested in this car.

The car is now a serious show machine and has won awards in large shows such as the
"World of Wheels" where it won the "Outstanding Sport Compact/Import Tuner" prize
against some serious machinery. Im sure you can spy a good bit of the exterior modifcations
right off the bat and I will get into them more in a little bit...for now lets look inside.

The interior is stunning and the centerpiece to the whole interior is the full custom dashboard.
Keep in mind that this is a 79 Super Beetle that normally has the big thick dashboard that is all plastic.
There was some serious fabrication involved in blending in a dashboard from a 63 model and doing the custom work to it.
Check out the beautiful door panels by the way...very slick.

Here's a sharper shot showing the beautiful steering wheel, the full array of instrumentation
and the custom upholstery as well. Note that the steering column is a tilt column from Ididit, used primarily in
high end sterrt rods. Also check out the custom dash pad, the billet dash knobs and more.
LED indicator lights are modled into the dash as well.
Quite the work of art.

The interior is very nicely done, starting with the stock seats as a basis but all custom stitching.

One of the very impressive additions to the car is the audio system.
Very impressive array of components by Audiobahn.

The rear deck houses the 10" subwoofer and two 6" speakers as well.

Here's the full array of amplifiers and cross overs and such.
Very tidy install. This stuff is all greek to me, but holy crow does it look expensive!

Notice the color matched recessed areas for each component...not just drilled onto a carpet panel.
Wiring is all hidden away from view.

One of the amplifiers...this one is an 800 watt unit for the sub.
There is another one even more powerful at 1200 watts for the full range.

OK...by now Im sure you have realized that the backround here is definitely NOT Southern California.
The car is located in Lincoln Nebraska. The owner sent me the most amazing disc of endless photos and
a beautifully typed up spec sheet as wel as copies of the title and copies of all the receipts for the build of the car.
Based on these photos and the other info provided as well as my lengthy phone conversations about the car
I feel very confident that what you see here is what it appears.

Ok lets dive underneath and see how crazy these folks went with this car... WOW...talk about clean!
As mentioned before this was a ground up every nut and bolt affair...in fact the vast majority of thos nuts and
bolts were replaced with stainless steel hardware too by the way.
Note the braided stainless brake lines in this shot and the custom struts.

Pretty impressive.
A couple of small chips from jacking and loading the car on trailers etc...

if the kitchen table is ever to cluttered for dinner...eat you meal down here...its that clean!

Disc brakes up front by the way, everything all new, bushings, tire rods, etc.

Bottom side of the engine is ultra clean as well.

Quad tip muffler is pretty slick and Im sure it sounds awesome.

And here's the popcorn popper that blows the fumes out those tail pipes!
The displacement is reported to be 2020cc, with dual Weber carbs
and more chrome than a 59 Caddy.
All of this is super fresh by the way and full receipts come with the car.

Its like staring at a disco ball back here...it's mesmerizing to say the least.

Everything is spotlessly clean... this is the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the firewall behind the engine.
Very clean and tidy.

Polished Empi 8 spoke wheels with Nitto performanc tires.
Look how clean those fenderwells are.
Also visable in this photo is the billet aluminum running boards with polished edge.

Notice the shaved seam above the fuel door.
Normally on these late model Converibles there is a big chrome bit covering a very pronounced seam.

Headlight eyebrows add some character.

All fresh window rubber and chrome trimmings... all in excellent condition.

Here you can see the custom dash pad through the curved windshield...

Yup...no scenery like that around our place...

In the end we have a pretty impressive bit of work.
An obvious eye for quality and detail went into it's construction.
And a whole lot of time and money.
If you are after a truly unique custom machine ...this may just be your ride.
