1965 VW Squareback For Sale

Here is another fun "celebrity car" offered up on Oldbug!
Ewan McGregor's 1965 VW Squareback.
This car has been in his stable for a number of years now and has been a great stealth runner for him
through the streets of LA and he has loved it dearly, but a new old car is going to take its place in the garage so it
is time to send it on to a new owner.

The car is a 1965 VW Squareback that was located in Los Angeles when it was first found.
It went from a derelict driveway ornament to a fully dialed in reliable driver, trimmed with rare accessories
and the interior done fully and professionally so it was nice inside.
The exterior was purposefully left as is with a nice patina and dings, dents ans scratched left untouched.

The ratty look to it is what makes it unique and I think it is cool that it was retained.
Low key, approachable and something you don't have to worry about scratching or messing up.
Its like a stray dog that went on to living a life a luxury...I just dig it.

Underneath the patina though it is a good solid car and is quite rare in that it has the
factory sunroof. The car was originally a light green color, but was repainted at some point long ago
to the rusty maroon/brown color you see here.
These pics were taken on a slightly wet day...in the bright sun it seems lighter
(see pic at top for reference)

Wood slat roof rack was custom orered without a finish on it so it would age quickly to match the car.
Euro flat taillight lenses, Australian rear window blinds installed as well.

The rarest accessory has to be the steel fender skirts that were found at a California swap meet from
a vendor that told us they came from Australia as well. I have never seen another set in person.
VW logo mud flaps, rare spoked wheel trim rings.

Outfitted for the road with a jack, jumper cables and fire extinguisher.
The detail spray and towels are kinda funny...but I guess you need to keep the glass clean at least.

All fresh tires including the spare.

The interior was done by Octavios in Orange California and was done totally to order.
The plaid material is actually the McGregor family tartan that was sourced in Scotland and sent in for installation.
Brown German square weave carpets are protected with green carpet floor mats.

Here's a pic of the man at the helm...I tried to talk him into wearing a matching kilt...but that just didn't work out!

Interior is really nice.
The paint on the dash and door jams were left rough as well as the dash pad was just patched up and left in place
but everything else was done very cleanly and has been very well kept.

The brown square weave carpets look awesome!

Headliner was all done fresh as well.

The sunroof portion has some slight aging to it as it has been opened and closed a fair bit.
The sunroof is currently a bit stuck at the moment by the way...it will need a little attention.

There is a box of a few spare parts including a sunroof wind deflector and some gravel guards and seatbelts.
Nice new rubber cargo mat in the back.

Door panels look great!

Back seat as well!

Bamboo parcel tray is a nice addition as well.

Detail of the sunroof

And the fender skirts!

A wee dent in the back.
Nice third brake light/fog light

Fun stickers here and there.

Very solid original floorpans

Good dry solid western car.

Paint is worn through in spots...delightfully distressed

Mechanically the car is all fresh and runs and drives fantastic.
The mechanical work was done by Russ at Oldspeed who really turns out some nice stuff.

12 volt electrics with alternator

Well tuned dual carbs with hex bar linkage

Transmission was rebuilt as well.

Its a unique ride with a neat story behind it.
Built well with no restraint and built to be a reliable fun driver with many personal touches.

Ewan loves it, but variety is the spice of life...it is time for something new to cruise around town.
He hopes it goes to someone who will enjoy it as much as he has.
