1967 VW Deluxe Microbus For Sale

1967 was the final year for the iconic split screen body design of the VW Bus.
From that point forward the changes were significant. While the "bay window" Busses of 1968-79
are still very fun machines, they just do not hold a candle to the original design.

67 was a banner year for Volkswagen and among collectors and enthusiasts, for the whole model range it seems that
there is a very desirable "sweet spot" with 1967. It was the first year for standard 12 volt electrics, the engines got a bit bigger
and many minor one year only details were put in place that have all added to the mystique of having a 67 VW.

In the model range for Busses in 67, the top of the heap was the Deluxe model.
Offered with or without the sunroof and skylight windows, they were equipped with
aluminum body trim along the belt-line, bumpers and rocker panels
and featured a significantly more fancy interior and many details.

The chrome front emblem was a deluxe only detail, as were a dash mounted clock, chrome inner door handles
and even a chrome plated ashtray.

Identification of an original deluxe model is pretty important.
It is EXTREMELY important if you are looking at a sunroof model
as there are a lot of them out there that have started life without that big $ sunroof
and have be sold as a legitimate "21 window".  This example doesn't have that, but
I will pitch out a little lesson here to help show you what to look for.

The tag on the fresh air vent is a good place to start.
Type 24 at the top left... yup, that is correct for the Deluxe model.
Now keep in mind... the "Deluxe" can be a hardtop or the sunroof model.

The real important tag to see is the "M Code" plate that sits behind the passenger seat.
These are often missing, but when they are in place, it is the best way to know what is really going on with the Bus.
So...what are all these numbers?

Top left is the "birthday"... 18  0 means October 18th 1966 production date
which would be correct for the 1967 model year.

The next line are the option codes...now here is where you need to really pay attention if you are looking at a sunroof model.
You see that "130" ?  If you are looking at a "21 window" and you see that 130 code, you are looking at a "clone"
not the genuine article.  130 is the code for "sunroof delete".

Obviously this Bus is a hardtop model and the numbers all line up with that...but remember that 130 code.

Other options here ...
425 = North American model,
025 = US spec bumpers
114 = 6 pop out windows
139 = Sealed beam headlights and red taillight lenses

all very common US delivery options

Bottom left is the delivery info...shipped to the US, Houston/San Antonio port.

Next to that... 241 is the Microbus Deluxe, Left Hand Drive with full width center seat.
Paint color codes line up to Beige grey and Titian red and the Platinum interior.

And all of this matches up properly to what the Bus is today.

The Wolfsburg crest horn button is a Deluxe attribute.
The dash knobs here are a one year only 1967 detail.

This is a bench seat model with the 1/3 2/3rd split seat.
Note the nice clean spare wheel and tire as well as the new red seat belts.

The interior is nicely done in this Bus
and the correct "jail bars" and luggage rail on the back seat are present.

Excellent headliner!

Correct 67 Deluxe only chrome flipper door handles

12 volt electrics as original.
Nice to see the washer bottle in place and it is even functional.

Proper middle seat with the right grab handles.

Divider wall panel looks fantastic and its great to see the handle and ashtray in the right spots.

Now technically this interior material does differ slightly from the original "platinum" material
which has a bit of a gold "shine" to it, but it is done extremely well and is frankly much nicer looking.
