1963 Beetle Sedan For Sale

Here's a fun little Beetle that would make a great weekend driver and play toy.
Its not an over-restored show car, but it is a pretty honest solid California car that has had
a cosmetic restoration a couple years ago and it is a good runner and driver.

The color is a very light minty green, which fits the car well.
Black California plates, so it has been here it's whole life, safe from the evil
road salt and nasty weather that plaques some areas of our fine country.

It has a definite "classic" look to it with it's wide whitewall tires and tasteful vintage color.

It has been driven a bit and shows a bit of age, but still very presentable and attractive.
The quality of the restoration on a whole is pretty average, not a top dollar pro-job
but the price reflects this and I believe that underneath it all lies the heart of a good solid machine.

The bumpers are aftermarket replacements, with a little bit of age to them.
Correct rear taillights and license light.

Its a cute one to be sure.

Now that you have the overall feeling of it...lets dive in a little closer and see the details.
Firstly the front bumper is just a hair crooked, and the owner states that she recently bumped into
something which caused this. It obviously was not a hard bump, but it moved things areound just a hair.

If you look carefully in this photo you can see the ever so slight gap where the hood meets the front apron.

And a ding in the bumper.

And the front fender on the driver's side bows out just a hair right about in the center of this photo.
To me it looks like it could easily be worked back into place without any paint repair
just a little pull from the front and a push on the rise on the fender edge and maybe replace the front bumper if the ding bothers you.
It truly is a minor issue, but I've got to show you this sort of stuff.

The body overall is nice and straight with no noteable issues.
A few small scratches and chips, but thats about it.

Decklid fits nice.
Note the accessory bumper bar on the rear bumper.

Window rubber all looks good, nice aluminum trim on the engine vents.

A small ding on one of the bumper guards out back here.

Passenger side is nice and straight as well.

Wide whitewall radial are in great shape tread wise, but someone layed a coat of whitewall tire paint
over the tire's original whitewall in an attempt to clean them up
(instead of using an SOS pad or some cleaner ! )
This layer is starting to peel off.

Here's a close up of the layer that is peeling.
I gave a little scratch at it and it looks to me like it will peel off with a little effort
and then you could give the whitewall beneath a good scrubbing and be back where they look nice.
The tread on the tires is very good, so they are well worth the effort of cleaning up.

OK, thats the outside...lets look in deeper.

The engine is a 1600cc unit, converted to 12 volt electrics.
The engine was reportedly rebuilt just about 1200 miles ago and it runs and drives well.

Pretty clean up close on the top side. Engine tins look well fitted, the rubber seal looks fresh, all in order.

Bottom side of the engine lid.

Underbelly of the engine looks pretty dry, trans as well...no signs of any major leaks.

The chassis of the car is very very solid.

A good dry California car.
If you look at the very top of this photo you will see just a hint of rust beginning along the base
of the heater channel, but at this point is is super minimal and should just be treated and watched so that it does not spread.

The rest of the car looks great in all the "rust prone" areas such as the fender wells...very smooth and solid.

Back edge of the heater channel in the rear wheel well...one tiny spot but overall still very sound.

Back bumper mounts are another notorious area...these look pretty good.

Another outside shot to keep the overall vision in your mind.

The happy little face.

Wolfsburg Crest hood emblem

Trunk area is pretty clean and has a carpet kit installed.

Front apron looks pretty nice.

Not much distortion in here...just the slightest sign of a bump to the nose.

Washer bottle and brake fluid resevoir area is pretty clean

Passenger side of the spare tire well shows signs of another little bump in the nose at some point in it's history.

Wiring cover is in place, hood looks clean on the bottom side.

Latch area of the hood.

Closed it is all pretty tight and proper.

Dashboard is clean and although there is an aftermarket radio in the dash, I dont believe it is the type
that would require trimming the dash at all, so it could be put back to stock easily.

Steering wheel is in pretty nice shape.

Odometer reads just over 20,000 miles...actual mileage on the car is unknown.

Basic budget am/fm cassette radio fills the dash.
Ignition switch is not factory.

Caroet is in decent shape and is well fitted.

Speaker panel behind the rear seat holds two 6 X 9 speakers.

Headliner is clean.

Good up front too.

Rear seat is nice with it's off white vinyl and grey accent piping.

Front seats are done to match (of course)

A slight bit of wear to the seats but minimal.

Unfortunately the owner's daughter left one of those suction cup window shades laying over the seat
on a hot day and the material melted into the vinyl.
Its stuck on there pretty good, not sure how easily it will come off of there...what a bummer.

Door panels are nicely done to match.

Broken window crank.

Passenger side panel...

Door jams look decent.

Empi threshold plates dress up the sills.

Pretty clean.

So...in closing, this is a pretty decent solid example of a 63 Beetle.
Black California plates, recent cosmetics give it a nice fun and bright personality.
Recent rebuilt engine makes it a good driver.
It has a few flaws here and there but at the price I think you will agree, it is a decent buy.
Car is located here in Southern California.
