1975 Super Beetle Sunroof Sedan For Sale

This pretty purple Beetle came to us recently in the hands of it's owner who is going to school
at Pepperdine University here in Southern California. She is just getting ready to ship off to foriegn lands
to continue her education and her beloved purple Beetle just wont fit into her luggage.
Its been a great companion for her while she was here, having made the trip to California from
British Columbia Canada as well as providing reliable transportation around the southland.

When in Canada it received extensive restoration work by a fellow there.
The Beetle nut that it was bought from had done the following in the summer of 2005:
1). New floor pans both sides;
2). Heater channels replaced both sides;
3). Brake lines replaced;
4). New tie rods;
5). Overhauled 1600 CC Carbureted engine;
6). Engine electrical harness replaced;
7). New window seals;
8). New interior carpets and door panels;
9). New upholstery;
10). New headliner;
11). New battery;
12). New tires;
13). Added passenger front side mirror;
& 14). New exterior paint

Obviously some serious time and money went into the restoration and the car has a pretty clean look to it.
The quality of the paint is pretty nice, good gloss to it and the color, while not original fits the car well.

Its a unique look with the color and the darker wheels, and that's what I like about it. Its not just
another stock Super Beetle.

The front bumper is missing it's rubber impact strips and plastic ends but these are available.
It looks fine without them I suppose.
Hood fits decent. Headlight rings are pitting up a little (Pepperdine is near the Beach in Malibu)
Easy and cheap to replace. Very minimal wear...just a scant few rock chips.

Pretty clean under the hood.

Looks like the strut towers are solid...possibly some welding done here.

Looks solid and untouched on the drivers side.
Original color of the car is the green you see poking through here.
I believe this car started out as one of the La Grande edition Beetles
which are pretty rare. They were marketed as the top of the line Beetle
in 1975...the most Deluxe Beetle ever built at the time.

Spare tire well looks solid and straight.

Body tag.

Under the hood.
There is a spot on the edge of the hood here where the paint is peeling up.
This is just under the hood though...not peeling on the outside.

The hood handle has been pushed in ever so slightly...notice the small crack in the paint.
It operates fine, just a cosmetic flaw.

The passenger side turn signal lens has faded to almost clear.

Passenger side mirror was installed at the time of the restoration.
The little silver squares are aluminum tape covering small holes where perhaps a different mirror was mounted
at some point. Better to cover the holes than allow water in, but kinda odd to see such a thing.

Taillight lenses are nice.

Nice rain guard painted to match covers the engine lid vents.
Car has a clean and clear British Columbia title and current registration.
Engine lid fits well.

Engine compartment is overall pretty clean.
Engine was rebuilt at the time of the restoration which was just about a year ago.
Its a good runner, drives nice and its been a very reliable car for it's owner.

The engine is a crburated version, most US spec Beetles in 75 were fuel injected.
The carburater is much nicer as it is an easier system to maintain.

Pretty clean under the engine as well...just the normal layer of road grime.

Floor pans have been replaced and look very good indeed.

Nice and solid underneath.

Clean in the fender wells as well.

Up under the front end too is clean.
Sway bar mounts have been swapped for the poly urethane bits...a nice improvement over the original rubber.

Good straight apron, no signs of any body damage or repair.

Good looker eh?

The face.

Nice straight bodywork.
(the little thin aluminum body trim on this quarter panel is broken...needs to be replaced)

Passenger side very straight as well.

Inside is nice and clean too.

Seats were recovered when the restoration was done.
The plastic side cover for the seat frame is broken, but it's just the plastic trim.
The seats seem a little loose in the car...not sure if there are bushings that fit into the mounts
or something. They are in there strong, not going anywhere but when you grab them by the top
they will shake back and forth a little bit.

New door panels.

New carpet.

Clean door frames.
(again there are some of those tabs of aluminum tape covering holes.
Not sure what these holes were for...kinda odd.)

Some slight overspray on the edge of the dash pad.

Padded steering wheel and the wood trimmed dash are another clue that this car was an original La Grande edition.
These were unique attributes to this model.

Odometer reads 28,000 miles. Actual mileage on the car is unknown.
The restoration was done just about a year ago according to the owner and the engine was
rebuilt at that time. So it's all still pretty fresh.
The speedometer has stopped working just recently...not sure of the cause.

Nice Blaupunkt CD stereo in the dash.
Speakers are mounted in nice panels down on the sides of the body under the dash.

Dash pad is in pretty good shape.

Plastic side trim on the passenger seat is gone alltogether.
A simple fix and the part is not expensive.

Seats look good.

Door panels are clean.

Black headliner looks nice.
Factory sunroof is a very nice bonus.

Crank it on open and let in the sun!

Rear seat is clean as well.

Under the carpet is a sound deadener insulation type material.

And under that is nice clean floor metal.
Apparantly the floor pans and heater channels were replaced at the time of the restoration.

Car sits down just a little lower in the front due to the smaller tires.
Rear end seems like it might be a hair lower as well...but I could be mistaken.

Factory sunroof closed

And open...
Nice and clean up here.

The front end of these Super Beetles are just so round...

145 15 Michelin ZX radial tires up front.
Looks to be pretty new.
Wheels have been painted a charcoal silver.
These are the factory sport wheels.
(the center caps are missing but they are readily available and are inexpensive)

165 15 tires in back.

..

Tweeter pipes have rusted up a bit and there is a bit of a ding on the lower edge of the fender here.
Also it appears that the rear apront was trimmed to allow for the twin pipes.
Im pretty sure this car originally had just a single tip exhaust.

In closing this is a good car for the daily grind or weekend cruise.
Its clean and unique and the restoration work is all still pretty fresh.
Not a show car obviously but accessorized up a bit and dressed with stuffed animals and playful goodies
and you could see it fit in with that crowd too. Its clean looking, and you wont lose it in the mall parking lot.
Good on gas too which is a strong selling point these days as well.
