Check this baby out!
A sweet little 67 Beetle that is Electric Powered!
It is a bit of an experimental vehicle by a fellow in Mass.
It was restored on the exterior and the electric power installed.
The car has been used a little bit, and has sat for a little bit
so it will need further fiddling with to be the best it can be
but a lot of the hard work has been done.

Looks quite normal and clean...a nice car.

Other than the logos on the doors and the plates, it looks totally stock.

Below is a full spec run-down of the car.

Vehicle    1967 Volkswagen Beetle

Motor    Netgain ImPulse 9 Series Wound DC
HP = 63 @ 120 Volts DC (435 Amps) 9" motor mounted using
CanEV adapter plate and shaft coupling with clutch.

Drivetrain    Four speed manual transaxle with clutch.

Controller    Alltrax 7245
72V, 450 Amp

Batteries    9 Energizer GC8, 8.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded
Golf Cart Battery, 170 Ah (20h rate)
System Voltage    72 Volts

Charger     Wilderness EV Capacitive Charger
Constant current of 6.5 Amp, 120V

Heater    None yet.

DC/DC Converter
One battery is used for the 12 volt system and recharged
with a small smart charger.

Instrumentation    Stock instrumentation plus PakTrakr battery monitor
(Considering adding an
EVision
Universal Monitoring and Measurement Instrument
 in the dash
which
would perfectly fit in the speedometer hole/location. I
also have the analog amp meter (0-500 Amps) and volt
meter (50-150 Vdc) that came with the kit.

Top Speed    45 MPH (72 KPH)
Still working out how to best get higher speeds.
Something I
recently learned was to upshift when going up steep hills
to
generate higher torque. Would really like to get to 55 mph
and >35 mph up hills.

Acceleration    Good up to 20 mph.

Range    40 Miles (64 Kilometers)
Confirmed at 35 mph on relatively flat test track during 21st
Century Automotive Challenge in State College, PA (May 23,
2010). Practical range probably ~25 miles at varying
speeds and some hills.

EV Miles
Start:    314,206 Miles (505,557 Kilometers)
Current:    314,718 Miles (506,381 Kilometers)
Total:    512 Miles (823 Kilometers)

Seating Capacity    4 adult seats. A clip bar was welded/installed in rear for baby seats. Practical, 2 adults plus a baby/child since only front has 3 point belts.

Curb Weight    2,275 Pounds (1,034 Kilograms)
Estimated (hasn't been officially weighed).

Tires    Standard bug tires at 40 PSI

Conversion Time    Started project in Fall 2007 as restoration project with
intent for conversion as well. Stripped it down and it went
to body shop for welding repairs and painting in Spring
2008. Received it back in Spring of 2009. Completed
restoration and began conversion in parallel. Completed
conversion and first rides in July 2009. Upgraded to 9" motor in Fall of 2010. Still work in
progress... plan to upgrade to Netgain PulsaR controller and charger (w/ DC-DC) and J1772 plug as well as 96-120V in Spring 2013.
Conversion Cost    ~$5,000 for kit and extras (not including restoration
costs)

Everything is cleanly installed.
Would be quite simple to convert back to gas engine if desired.

Batteries tucked in behind the back seat

Clean underneath

Solid chassis

Stock transmission

Interior looks fairly good...still needs carpet and some upholstery work

Just a couple added gauges

Back seat is fully functional

Headliner in great shape

Drivers side seat bottom is ripped up a bit.

Charger under the front hood as well as additional batteries.

Stock wiring still intact and quite clean

Care was taken not to modify the body greatly, and it all looks like it
could all be put back together to stock form if someone wanted to.

Really a cute little car.

I love the door logos...very fun

Stored indoors and kept out of the elements.

Plug it in and charge it up and go for a drive!
The car has been sitting for a bit and the batteries are aging.
Fresh batteries would be a nice improvement and of course there are ways to
invent and modify and improve the machine for higher speed and longer range.
A great hobby car, a fantastic conversation piece and priced very reasonably
considering the time and money put into restoring and developing it to this point.
