1961 VW 23 Window Microbus For Sale

The VW Microbus is an icon.
It is arguably the most "60's" vehicle ever.
From its connection to pop culture at Woodstock to the surf and sand of California
it is a vehicle that immediately conjures up images of the era even for people
that are not in the world of cars.  It truly has a place in global history that is far
beyond its design as a utilitarian transporter of people and their goods.

It is little wonder why they have become so highly prized in the world these days.

This one is of course the "big daddy" 23 window model, which is at the top of the heap
when it comes to the model line of busses.

It also has the highly desired "walk thru" front seats.

Beautifully finished inside and out

Blaupunkt radio is pure jewelry

Kilometer speedo showing just 1295km since completion of the restoration.
The Bus was originally delivered in California when new and was exported to Germany roughly 7 years ago.
At the time of the sale it had only 70k miles  on it since new.

Superbly clean dash and controls.
The seller tells me that the interior paint is original...which is almost unbelievable looking at the condition.

Safari windows and walk thru front seats... what more can I say?
This is one of the best seats in the house of cars to be sure.

Slide open that wonderful sunroof and watch the world dance by through the
curved skylight windows.

Great level of detail on this Bus, things are done very clean and proper.

All stock and proper 40 horse 12oocc engine with the correct details.
Runs and drives wonderful.

Being a 1961 model, it is the final year for the small glass taillights
and the "bullet" front turn signals.
These "bullet bus" era examples are definitely a step above the 62-up examples
when it comes to value and collectability

Correct 15" Bus only wheels with trim rings and painted center caps.

Bumpers are very clean and well fit and feature the correct aluminum trims

Very nicely finished example.

Being a factory walk thru model it has the 3/4 center seat.
This is the correct seat for the Bus, not a later model as you see in many "restored" Busses.
The trim panels below the seats are in place as well.
There are a lot of shiny pretty VW Busses out there on the market for sale, but there are few that
are done with the proper authenticity focus.  This one stands out as a result of this approach I feel.

Excellent

Very clean

This particular example is located in Germany with a good friend and long time
client of ours.  Assistance with shipping anywhere in the world is a part of the deal here.
The cost of course is that of the buyer, but you can rest assured that things will be handled
cleanly and professionally.

She's a beauty

Out in the sun that color transforms.
Sealing Wax Red and Beige Grey are the official names of the paint colors.

One of the best parts about this particular Bus is that it is an extremely solid example that has not been
surgically assembled by bits of other vehicles or reproduction panels.
It is a very legitimate "virgin" Bus.

Engine number

Unrestored underneath, just very well maintained and solid.

The seller feels strongly that the body has not had any welding or rust repair done.

Birds eye view.

The "splash pan" for under the pedals is included with the sale
but was pulled off just before these photos for the strict German TUV inspection
which it passed with flying colors.

Love the safari windows!!

Walk thru baby!!

Correct assist traps and coat hooks

Grab handle
Interior materials were all from the legendary West Coast Classics

Ok...quick update on mileage. The seller just took the Bus on
a rally through Europe through Bavaria and the Czech Republic where it performed flawlessly
event through the steep mountain passes.  Despite the mild performance of a stock VW Bus, they managed to
capture 9th place in a field of 46 vintage vehicles.

Correct dash clock

M code tag is present

Fuel gauge

Such a beautiful machine.

In closing this really is a proper example with a well documented history.
Legitimate and well sorted, this is a perfect example for someone that wants to enjoy their ownership.
Not a trailer queen, but certainly well ranked in the "Royal Family" of the VW world!
