1972 VW Super Beetle For Sale
Here is an image of the momentous occasion.
The production was limited to 1000 cars here in the US apparantly...here
is an image of the brochure cover.
They had special stripes on the body above the running board and some had
a special emblem on the glove box door.
Foglights were available as a special option as well.
This example is located in Wyoming in the hands of it's second owner (the
first owner being the current owner's cousin)
and it has reportendly travelled only 51,000 miles simce new. It is not a
show level garage queen, but it has been garaged and well
cared for during it's life, but has seen some use. The exterior was resprayed
some time ago in the original color and the interior upholstery needs a little
work, but it is a very solid example that is still quite presentable and
it's a good runner and driver.
One of the most obvious attributes are the special Lemmerz steel wheels...not
a normal sight on a VW.
The color is a great color as well.
The body looks very straight on this car and the paint has a decent shine
to it.
Original bumpers are in place with the rubber impact strip and the overall
look is pretty pleasing.
One of thee stainless center caps is missing from the drivers side front
wheel...the others are there.
Good looking little car dont you think?
Under the hood is a little dusty but intact.
The original jack is present and the original trunk liner is intact.
Under the hood looks good and straight, original paint code sticker is still
there documenting the original special paint color.
Body panel fit appears to be nice, no signs of any serious collision damage
or repair.
The rubber on the running boards is shrinking up a bit and should be replaced.
A little paint damage down low on the fender here.
It has a few chips and scratches from use, but nothing major.
Chassis is very solid according to the owner with no rust or repairs.
Out back where the heart of the beast resides.
Engine is a bit dirty from use (owners live in a dusty area)
but it appears to be the original engine and it runs and drives well.
The owner has some receipts from service done just a few thousand miles ago
several part replaced and the usual valve adjustment and service.
Tires are good...a bit more stone chipping on the drivers side fender.
When the car was resprayed, the fender beading was painted over.
Body is very straight on the car.
Interior is original and shows a bit of wear.
The seats should be re-upholstered as they are a bit tattered.
The stering wheel has been replaced with an aftermarket one.
Dash is otherwise stock and un-altered, original carpets are still in place.
Original radio remains in the dash.
Only deviation from original in here looks to be the steering wheel and tweedy
seat covers.
Door jams appear solid, seats are in decent shape mechanically...but fresh
covers and padding would do wonders.
Rear seat is brittle from the sun on the top and splitting up...seat bottom
has rips as well.
Original headliner looks to be in pretty nice condition.
Not bad for the original stuff eh?
Even the dome light works!
Original door panels are holding up pretty well.
Another view into the back...the "Idiot Book" is included!
Here you can see the drivers side seat bottom has some rips...hence the seat
covers.
No springs in the tailbone yet though...
In closing this is a great little Beetle.
A good driver and weekend tinker project.
The special model history makes it a special thing as well...the collectors
havent gone nuts yet for these, but I
really think their time is coming. If the production numbers I have heard
are correct...this could be one of only 1000 made in this
combination...who knows how many there are on the road today. With over 15
million VWs being made,
finding a rare one isnt easy...youve got to gow way back to the earliest
models or these special edition cars
in order to find something that is truly unique.
