1974 Super Beetle with Factory Sunroof

Here's a great budget Super Beetle for you.
Goos solid straight California car.
Recent extensive (and expensive) mechanical work including a new
transmission and a good bit of engine work too.

Paint job is old and is showing it's age but as you can see she still holds a shine.

1974 was a great year as it was the last of the carburated engines with the latest body style.
And now with the California emissions laws, due to it's age it is exempt from inspection.
(your state may vary of course)

Not a bad looker dont you think?

Nice straight front end...never hit. Excellent panel fit.
All original bits in place.

Nice and straight down the sides.

Again nice and straight on the tail end.

Engine compartment is nice and clean.
Engine truly runs like a top, transmission is fresh as well.
Receipt totalling over $1700 show the recent work.
Front end still needs some attention as it has the classic
"Super Beetle Shimmy" at a certain speed. This normally means the front struts are worn out
and perhaps a little adjusting and lubrication. All pretty straight forward repair.
Brakes are good, electricals seem fine.

Nice and straight on the passenger side as well.

Chrome wheels show a little dulling and some light surface rust in the deep edge, but still look cool.
Tires are decent all the way around.

Factory sunroof is an excellent option to have, and this one has the wind splitter too which is ever so cool.
Sunroof opens and closes smoothly.

Glass is all good, window rubber is a bit aged and cracking.

There's a few spots on the body here and there where the paint has chipped away and has been touched up.

Good peppering of stone chips.

Lower drivers door hinge was over-extended at one point.
Door still opens and closes fine though.

Small dent down low on the drivers side rear fender...looks like it would pop out pretty easy.

Some small rust bubbles and one rust hole in the rear quarters behind the side glass.
This was a classic design flaw on Super Beetles. A little moisture gets in there and it hits some insulation in the corners here.
Then it sticks around and causes the bubbles.

Some paint fade and checking on the passenger side front fender.
Car would need fresh paint to be showroom looking...but it's fine for a driver as it sits.
(my opinion of course...)

Gas door has a very slight wave in it.

Car has current California registration. Title is marked as Salvage which means at one point the car
was sold at an auction through a dismantler or tow lot. I see no signs of any serious collision damage of any sort
so I can only assume it must have been towed off or donated or something.
Its a pretty common thing with older vehicles...kinda a bummer but it doesnt affect the
quality of the car in any way. It's only spooky if it was a wreck victim, which this one is not.

Original floor pans, no signs of welding or repair.
Heater channels look excellent.

One hole under the battery...the most common spot.
A very straight forward patch repair area...plan on a couple hundred bucks to do it right.

Drivers side pan looks good...I saw one small pin hole on the rear edge, otherwise good.
Again the heater channels look great.

Fender wells all look super solid. The factory undercoating is chipping off in spots revealing nice original paint.

We are in the process of cleaning up the interior a bit as well as under the front trunk...
Photos of these areas will be posted shortly.

More photos and details soon to come... stay tuned!!!
