Australian 1972 1302 Super Beetle For Sale
Ok...Ive been in the VW scene for a long time now and have been running Oldbug for well over 20 years now
but I have never been as infatuated with a 1972 Super Beetle as I am with this one.
This is an Australian built model, with factory right hand drive steering.
These were in essence German production cars that were sent to Australia in parts
and assembled at the VW factory there. While the similarities to the European and US model cars
are significant, there are also a lot of details that make these Aussie cars unique.
Many small parts were sourced from local suppliers rather than being shipped from Germany
and the more you look, the more you see when it comes to unique details.
This particular car is even more special in that it is a limited edition model
of just 1500 cars that were built to celebrate the 15 millionth VW built,
breaking the record for the most of any car model ever built!
The car has its birth certificate from VW in Germany to note the production information.
The M405 code for CKD... "Completely Knocked Down"
That is the term for the cars made in Germany but assembled at another plant.
The M116 I am assuming is the 15 Millionth Special edition.
Im waiting for explanation for this page...and for pics and details on the engine from the owner.
I will update as soon as I have that.
The car is crazy clean underneath!
Disc brakes have been added to the front end with a Porsche bolt pattern.
Wheels are beautifully detailed Porsche alloy replicas.

This is car number 896 out of the 1500 special edition cars built.
Steering wheel is a modern addition.
Dash looks all original and very clean
Radio was added at some point along with the speakers down in the footwells
Here you can see the speaker
Very clean under the dash!
Great looking car...so clean and simple.
The red interior against the white exterior is awesome and those wheels and front spoiler
give it a very sporting look.
Clear lens turn signals look to be an earlier design...but possibly correct for the land of Oz?
Volkswagen "S" model as you can see on the decklid.
When completed in Australia this tag was affixed. June of 72, which is a fair bit of time
from the December of 71 date that the body was produced in Germany.
Very solid in the spare tire well
Original keys and key chain!
In closing this is a really neat car. Super clean and solid and very well sorted.
Fascinating model with limited production and good documentation.
There is a lot here to love...and you sure aren't going to stumble on another one like it any time soon!
