1952 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale

This Nevada based Split is a really neat car.
Long history, great paper trail, very solid and stock
with just a few minor changes and upgrades that will give
the new owner a couple satisfying things to do if they desire,

Ill get into the details of this one right away as when it comes to the early cars
especially, those things make all the difference in value to collectors.

The car has spent some time in California as well as Germany.
Plates from both remain with the car.
The car comes with a current Nevada registration
as well as the California title and past historical ownership documentation.
The car is titled to the stamped chassis number on the front data plate.
The stamped number on the chassis itself dates to 1952 as well but differs from the tag and title.
1-0384808 on the actual chassis
1-0368448 on body tag and title.
According to the paperwork, the car was in Germany in the 70's and early 80's
coming to Arizona in 1985. In 1987 the car came to California and was
owned by collector Frank Kohlweiss. In 1991 it was purchased
by the current owner's father. It returned to Germany in 2005 with the current owner.
In 2010 the lighting was changed to meet German inspection (turn signals, etc)
The car returned to the US in 2012 and has been with the current owner through
moves from Minnesota to California and finally to Reno Nevada where the car sits today.

Comes with some nice books.

This is a great manual!

Very cool

1972 documentation in Germany

Bill of sale from a past transfer in 1987

Documentation for a disc brake upgrade

Some recent receipts as well

All in a tidy folder

Original brakes included.

Correct taillights with bulb holders, new seals and the proper stamping divots for the rear fenders are included with the sale
as well as some additional small parts.

The coveted split rear windows!

Turn signals have been bumper mounted which is a common
way to deal with the European regulations

Taillights are 1956-1961 era and the rear fenders are from the same era.
The owner did state that he has some original taillights for it and the little
panels to convert the fenders to having the proper divot for installation.
He is currently searching for them, so this is not "guaranteed" until he
sends me pics of them, at which time I will add pics of the parts.

Grooved bumpers and proper guards.
I like the exhaust tip trim as well

Proper 16" wheels fitted with early big logo hubcaps.

A few chips and scratches in spots as you can see here.

A touched up ding on the rear fender

Looks solid

Gravel guards

Luggage rails are here

Still 6 volt

Original style interior materials show some aging.

Might be possible to have these cleaned and improved a bit?

Bolster pillows

Cool vintage luggage

Nice

Interesting under dash radio mount.

Dash looks great...I see a cool locking steering column unit is fitted.

The right steering wheel and switches all look good.

Even an early dimpled shift knob.

Floors look solid

Missing the door check strap

Fuel tap extension
Carpet shows some wear and age obviously.

Smooth semaphores

Gravel guards on the front
Proper running board trims.

Its hard to see it with the gravel guard trims in place
but it looks like the front fenders might have the proper flared out spot
that meets up with the running board?

Crotch cooler vents in the front panels...love that detail on this era Beetle.

Wood slat roof rack looks cool.
The cooler and tool box are included

The fender top turn signals were added obviously.
Hood fit looks nice

Spare tire is a super cool vintage one

Hood appears to be the original as it has the little triangle under the emblem

The early three bolt hood hinges as well...definitely looks OG to me.

Brakes have been upgraded on this car to four wheel disc.
The dual circuit master cylinder has its reservoir fitted here under the hood.

Original paint in here so you can see the car was repainted in the proper color.

Super straight front end!

Love it!

Original tags are all in place

Looks like the original rear apron as well...but with a small repair

Interesting tow hooks added in front and rear

Pretty cool the way that is fitted

Headlight wire tubes are here

Jack points look super solid.

Split case trans

Very clean and dry underneath

Awesome chassis and pans

Bolt on disc brake set from CSP in Germany is top quality stuff.

The brake set is all bolt on, so easy to swap back to original if desired
but the increased safety and stopping power would be hard to give up.

Solid door jams

A better look at the little radio set up.

New rubber mat for behind the pedals is included.

Correct grooved trim and some fun door handle scratch guards

The "Popes Nose" license plate light.

Correct aluminum hood handle

Grooved hood trim

Proper solid hood emblem

Looks like the cool wire style wiper arms are here
]

Great hood fit

Really nice stainless rack with leather straps and all.

Rear apron

Engine looks correct with many of the correct early details.
Seamed fan shroud, mushroom air cleaner

Big nut generator, spark plug tubes, carb support, etc.
Good runner and driver too!
Engine case number dates to 1958, so 36hp.

Its a good looking car.
Certainly not a flawless restoration and there are some details that could be improved upon
if you are a real fanatical collector, but the base car underneath looks really pure and solid.

Personally I would swap the lights for the correct originals and then just leave the rest as it is
and drive it. A nice usable split that you can totally enjoy as it is.

Finding a good split these days is pretty tough it seems but this example is a great
candidate if you are in the market for one. Its got some good soul
and a well documented history. Clean paperwork, a good driver, etc.
Incredible bargain at the asking price.
