1966 VW Standard Microbus For Sale

This California based 66 Standard Microbus is a super solid and original machine
with a recent repaint in the original Sea Blue color, all fresh rubber and body seals.

Fitted with some very cool period accessories such as the full length roof rack, side step and safari windows.

Black plate California Bus, currently near Sacramento
but spent much of its life in Salinas California which explains the extremely solid body.

The Bus has been massaged and cared for by a life long VW nut and it is a mega reliable driver that
the owner says without hesitation that he would hop in it and drive it across the country at any time.

The bumpers are original and show some bumps and bruises,
The headlight stone guards are a nice addition.

All fresh window seals and body rubber.

Very nice fit to all the body panels, nice reflection in the paint...the Bus is very straight.

Pop out window seals are all new.

Nice row of pop outs that really help when cruising on a warm summer day.

Very clean

Nice down the long side

Handles are all in great shape, glass is all good.

Lots of original parts such as the mirrors

The full length rack is an awesome addition!

Very nicely restored and fitted.

Out back is a fantastic powerplant with all the documentation.
This is a full tilt Gene Berg built engine that has about 30k miles on it since build.
The receipts below for this engine are extensive...this was done way back in 86 at a very large cost
for the day of over $3000.  Same engine today would probably cost you $10k!

The engine has been fully serviced and runs fantastic. The transmission is freshly rebuilt
as is the front suspension. Mechanically this Bus is stellar according to the owner.

Peeking in the deep spots around the engine it is super clean
and all the best of the best parts are fitted.

Oberg oil filter, stainless braided lines, Berg deep oil sump.

Very clean and dry underneath.

Race Trim valve covers, performance header that retains the factory heater boxes.
Carburetors are Dellorto 40's ...it is fast and fun and an enjoyable drive that keeps up with modern traffic easily.

The underside of the Bus is all original and mega solid!
These split screen Busses are known to rust easily and this one is miraculously untouched and original underneath.

The front axle beam is all fresh and new from Wolfgang and features adjusters for ride height as well as all new
tie rod ends and fittings.

Brakes are all excellent, tires as well.

Super solid in the fender wells and down the rockers.
This is one dreamy bus when it comes to the sheet metal.

Awesome!

So rare to find them this solid and un-welded underneath.

Wheels are earlier 15" Bus wheels.

She's one cool ride.

Safari windows are very nice quality and are the original design.
Spring loaded wiper adapters make for easy action to pop the wipers down and open the windows.

Another shot of that cool original side step

The interior is mostly original and still has a great mild patina look to it.
The center seat is a later model but fits the look very well.

The rear seat has seat belts all the way across for your passengers

Rear seat is hinged to flip out as a bed.
With the center seat out and the floor mat lifted you can see how solid that original floor is!

Original salt and pepper door panels all the way around.

Headliner is original and holding in there quite well.

Fresh air box shines in its original paint.
Dome light even works!

Divider wall is untouched and complete with the grab handle and original ashtray.

Nice cohesive aging and attractive patina for those that like that style.

Even out back the luggage area has its original panels in place.

There is one spot on the headliner just above the passenger front door that is damaged.
The owner says that the "rodent"...sorry.. small dog, is not included in the sale.

Dash and interior is all original paint and finishes.

Dash is super clan and un-modified.

Some expected wear to the steering wheel.
Horn button is in black.

Gene Berg shifter is an awesome addition as well

Speedometer the a "clear needle" version from an earlier model

Original Sapphire radio in the dash

Original kick panels with the "church key" in its holder.

The only rust "hole" that the owner mentioned was this small one in the corner on the drivers side floor.
Surface rust areas on the floor have been cleaned and treated.

Amazing to see an original Bus floor this solid!

Front seats are obviously showing some wear.
The owner held back on replacing the upholstery so the inside would all blend together visually.
Obviously there are several sources out there for proper replacement seat covers if you
wanted to make it all nice...but then you slide down that slippery slope of
wanting everything inside to look "new" and before you know it, the originality is lost.

Clean behind the seats

All original body tags are present

Even the "M" code tag and the original paper paint code sticker!!
Looks like a May 1966 production model 221 (Left hand drive 9 passenger)
North American Export equipment, 6 pop out window option, seat belts and code 043 has me stumped...
Obviously the paint colors are original as well with that sticker in place.

Its a very good Bus

Not a show machine by any means...not precious and perfect and a trailer queen, but one that
is clean enough to look cared for and loved and it retains a nice bit of originality and cool factor.
I would enjoy it exactly as it is...pile the kids and dogs inside and go hit the beach.

Its tough to find good solid originals these days...so many have been pieced back together from rusty hulks
while this one defies the norm.  It is just a very good honest example that had been very well sorted and is ready for fun.
