1957 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale

Oh my...I SO love it when a car comes across my desk that has a good story!
Especially if that story has "low miles" and "all original" in it somewhere!

This 57 Oval was sold new in Oceanside California and has been in the same family since new.
With less than 35,000 original miles on the odometer!

Are you liking where this story is going?

The car was purchased in Oceanside on June 21st 1957
at Don Sharp VW Porsche.
It was driven to Denver Colorado and was used as a "church on sunday" driver
by the great aunt of the current owner, who took over ownership in 1991,
drove it back to California and has maintained it and driven it sparingly since.
When he took delivery,  the car had 31,000 miles on it...now it is just under 35,000.

Original sales papers are still with the car and show all the options.
Gas gauge, radio, etc...it was pretty well loaded. Almost $2000 out the door.
These original documents show the engine number which is still the one in the car today.

This pic was taken in 91 when the current owner took delivery from his great aunt.
That is her in the passenger seat...
You just want to hug her don't ya?

Ok...from the warm and fuzzy story lets get down to the greasy details on the car.
It remains very untouched and original everywhere, including underneath.
There is grease build up and road grime from use.
Important parts like the brake lines and fuel filter have been changed...the car has remained maintained and operational
not something that has sat for decades.

Original split case transmission

Underside of the engine looks good, heater boxes and in good solid shape.

The car is mega solid and sound, no notable rust ...this is the shot under the battery side of the pan... amazing!

Some surface rust on the muffler and such, but the chassis is amazingly well preserved.

Original undercoating still in place.

Front end is good and greasy...it was always kept well lubed/
Tires and wheels have been replaced/restored.

Dreamily solid!

The details in the engine room are more of the same...all original and untouched.

Fuel pump looks to have been rebuilt at some point perhaps.

Original engine number peeking out in this shot

Correct carb with manual choke...support bracket for the manifold is here.

It is all as it should be...maintained, but not restored.

Runs like a Swiss watch of course

Under the front hood things look super clean and untouched as well.
It is apparent in this shot that the front hood was replaced at one point...more on this part of the story shortly.

Back side of the dash is fantastic

4. 57 date on the speedometer, wiring looks superb.
Check out the back side of the rare German Mo-Test multi gauge installed when new.

Original radio, trunk liner, glove box, etc...just lovely.

Look at that amazingly clean and un-cracked original wiring cover!

Sending unit for the fuel gauge

Ok...remember the replaced hood?
Well...at one point our hero, sweet Lela May, did have a bit of a boo boo in the local supermarket parking lot.

At the time of the repair, the hood was replaced and painted to match and the spare tire well here received
some bodywork and a little paint as well.
Front fenders appear to have been painted as well and the front quarter panels.

Nice matching spare

Several sections of the car retain its original paint and if you look close you can see the very mild patina.
Its gorgeous to my eyes...I love seeing that original finish even if it is worn just a little

Another light age spot visible here.
All glass is original except for the windshield which was replaced at some point

A peek under the mats...dreamy original finish.

A little surface rust forward of the battery, but absolutely rock solid

Even under the battery it is rock solid original metal.

Still 6 volts, original battery cover and strap are here

I can spy an original factory inspection tag tucked under the seat spring... wow.

Chassis number

Matches the tag up front

Awesome accessory multi gauge instrument.

Original Motorola "Big M" radio

Amazing original paint on the dash.

Wow...just wow

Original carpets and mats...all in nice shape

Luggage area out back, all original an untouched.

My favorite part of the car aside fro the story is the fact that it has a factory cloth interior in it!
The vast majority sold in the US had vinyl...but this cloth is the real deal original stuff.

A little light wear to the carpet edge on the drivers side.

Another little age spot to the carpet

Door jams and seat frames look stellar original

Oh that cloth!!!

Wow!

Here is a close up of the material

This is original everything inside

Looks so fantastic color combination wise.
Gotta be a rare find in this combo.
One notable wear spot on the drivers seat at the top corner...but the rest...amazing.

Yes...this is all original!

Even the steering wheel impressed me ...that's a low mileage car for you.
Nothing beats the factory stuff that has been well preserved.

Wolfsburg crest

Headlight have the correct lenses and details and all in fantastic original shape

Original dealer plate frames on the car too by the way!

Here is a small ding and chip

Chrome is excellent

Both rear fenders and the engine lid have been resprayed.

Apron as well in back

Very slight color variance to the paint here?

Gorgeous car

Pretty car

So clean!

That interior blows me away.

Headliner as well...wow.

34,383 miles since new

And the condition certainly backs that up.
Check out the accessory parcel tray too!

I love this car.
I love the color and options, the whole package is so pretty
and the low mileage and one family history make it even that much more special.
Its hard to find em like this!
