1960 Beeet Sedan For Sale.

OK...you are in town driving about one day and you see across the street an all original car
with the old plates and the old man or woman behind the wheel and your knees just go weak.
You chase him or her down and politely beg them to sell it to you, but it's their "baby" and they
have had it since new...etc etc...and your phone number goes into the glovebox along with the hundreds of other
numbers from enthusiasts like yourself. Some guys get luck and they get that call, but most of us just go home
and dream about seeing that car that day and the settle for a beat up one that needs that full restoration and such...

We have all been there and done that
There is something about an original car that just cant be replicated and the aura around it is intoxicating.

Well, this car has none of that going for it...it was once hit by a steamroller and was thrown to the bottom of a swamp
to rust and crust away until it completely blended back into the earth in a rusty oxide pool of iron soup...

NOT!

This car is the kind of car you dream of finding. Its been in California it's whole life and has a great originality factor.
It's not 100% original everything, but it's dreamy just the same.

The car was resprayed on the outside only back many years ago. The paint appears to be all original with that
soft look and feel, but super close inspection reveals that it was resprayed at one point.
The wheels have been repainted as well, wrapped in new tires, the fender beading and bumpers have been replaced.
But thats really about it.

Here's my artistic shot for the day...

Very clean in the corners, ninges and chrome nice.

Very straight car, look at that reflection.

These glass lensed extra taillights are certainly not original but they are wonderfully functional.
I really kinda like them on here...they help give the car that "old man" look to it and judging by the look of
the lights themselves, I bet they have been on the car since new or very close to it.

Black California plates, clean title and current registration.
(the dealer plate frames are NOT included in the sale by the way...sorry)

The small glass lens original taillights.

This could almost be a postcard from 1960 dont you think?

Here's a close up of the freshly painted wheels and the new radial tires.

Wonderfully straight and proud front end.
Bumpers are modern reproductions.

Open it up and look further and the car gets even better.

Original hardboard trunk liner is still in place.

Wiring cover as well is the original.

Wiring is all original and beautiful.
Check out the paper radio warranty tag on the radio and the original glove box.

Original speedometer with the proper date stamp.

Original tool roll.

Fuse block.

Look how clean this thing is!

The color is Indiana red as marked by the original paint code tag that is still in place.

Original jack in place, excellent straight spare tire well area.

Dreamy original front apron and latch.

Underside of the hood is all original paint.

And it is the proper 4 tab hood.
One interesting thing is that someone updated the hood hinges to the spring type
at some point in the car's past...a great idea to keep the hood from kinking and it was very well done.

The original Wolfsburg hood crest.

The horn grille on the passenger side has the original block off plate behind it.

Original running boards!
Note that the ribs on the rubber stop short of the end of the running board.

Out back is the original 36 horse engine that has been fully serviced and runs like a sewing machine.

Very original look to the motor with all the proper goodies.
The current owner is a seasoned VW mechanic who has lovingly revived the car from a long hibernation.

Here is a sweet upgrade...the electrics have been updated to 12 volt, but using a generator for
a Porsche 356, which has the same diameter as the original VW 6 volt unit.
Keeps everything looking and fitting original.

Original Bosch BR8 distributor.

Very straight and beautiful original rear apron.

The current owner went nuts with detailing and wiping away the years of grime in the corners...
and boy does it look impressive
especially for original paint!

Underside of the engine is pretty clean and dry as well.
By the way, the transmission is a fresh rebuilt full synchromesh unit.
Brakes are all new as well.

Super solid original chassis with no signs of rust or repair.
The factory undercoating has done a great job of keeping it nice
(living it's life in a dry climate helps too...)

Even on the battery side it looks as solid as can be.

In the fender wells as well it is all as it should be.
No rust and never hit...dreamy!

If you were a glutton for punishment you could carefully chip away the original
undercoating and get down to that shiny original paint under here...you can see it peeking out there
where the fender bolts on...

Ever so slight deformation to the inner edge of the passenger side front fender...looks like an itty bitty bit of bodywork done here.
Im being a truly nit-picky jerk here with this, but I always try to find something wrong with each car...

Hmmm...are you thinking what I'm thinking?
I want this in MY garage!

The inside is awesome as well.
Everything in here is original except for the front seat upholstery and the seat belts.
Everything else is just as it came from the factory in 1960.

The front seats have been very nicely redone and the new seatbelts are a good safety thing.

Back seat is all original upholstery.

Original headliner! A few water stains but still in amazing shape.

Nice eh?

Amazing that it's not ripped up or torn.

Original carpet and floor mats.

Some obvious wear on the driver's side there, but still original stuff.

Door jams are wonderfully solid and the original paint still shines.

Wow

Original service decal remnants.

Original door panels!!

Impressive.

More dreamy door sills.
A very common spot for rust to occur on these cars...nothing on this one though!

Original steering wheel in very nice shape.

Original speedometer with the clear needle.
Odometer reads 25,000 miles...most likely 125K on the car since new.
Check out the optional fuel gauge...in 1960 they didnt come with one.

Original large button Sapphire I radio still works!!

Owners manual in the glove box.

In closing this is just a great old car.
Well sorted out so it is a delightful driver.
Very well preserved and detailed. Not so nice that you would be afraid to drive it
yet it has that all original look and feel to it that will wow the folks at the next VW show.
