1964 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible For Sale

SOLD!!

This sweet 64 Ghia Convertible is located in Connecticut .
It was purchased in 2014 by the owner from a gentleman in Northern California.
The paint and body was done a couple years prior to that time but the restoration was not completed.
The current owner took on the task of building it up into a running and driving car again.

The front suspension was rebuilt in 2014 as well as all new brakes, a new fuel tank and lines
new wiring harness, all new interior, the 40 horse engine has a top end rebuild, new clutch, transmission mounts and
the list goes on and on.   The car has a been a reliable and enjoyable weekend driver for the owner and he has
put less than 500 miles on the car around town on sunny days.

The interior is all new and was sourced from Sewfine.
Its all in like new condition.  New seat belts as well.

New sun visors, dash pad, etc...tons of new parts on the car.

The top frame was restored and new wood installed as well.

A neew black canvas top and headliner kit is included in the sale but needs installation.

Three point seat belts are a nice safety upgrade

The canvas top boot snaps over the top frame for a clean finished look as it is,
but the top itself still needs to be installed.

As with the vast majority of Ghias out there in the world it has had a few bumps and bruises
over its lifetime.  Here is a shot inside the nose up under the emblem

As you sights down on the inside of the nose you can see signs of some hammer work
between the horn grilles.

Some slight distortion as we;; to the sides but it is minimal

Nice and straight on the passenger side.

The owner gives the paint and body a 6 out of 10, with 10 being concours level.
Its a clean driver quality finish that could be improved with a color sand and buff and a little detailing.
There is a little filler in the body at the nose of course
and he states that he has found some at the tops of the front fenders and around the rear of the car.

The side trim holes along the bottom of the body have been filled and there is no outside rear view mirror fitted.

New window rubbers and seals have all been installed

Very nice clean and attractive interior

Up close there are a few chips and scratches that could be carefully touched up to improve.

As you can see in this image under fluorescent lights that the paint finish could be improved by a good polishing.

The side mount bolts for the rear bumper as it wraps around have been filled as well.

The underside is impressive on the car as it appears to be very very solid and sound and there is clear
evidence of the work done to the suspension and front end.
All new bushings and clams, fresh brake parts, new tires, all of this was done less than 500 miles ago.

Transmission shows new axle boots and clams as well as new mounts.

Underside of the engine looks clean and shows the tell tale signs of recent work.
There is a tiny drip of oil when you park it, but it obviously is clean underneath.

The engine is a stock 40hp. It has been converted to 12 volt electrics.
The starter remains a 6 volt unit. Looks like a new carburetor, new hoses, voltage regulator, coil
battery and ground strap. Firewall material was new as well as the engine to body seal.

The engine case has markings from a factory VW rebuild at some point.
The recent top end rebuild was done less than 500 miles ago.
The car runs very well and with the new brake and suspension bits as well it really drives nice according to the owner.

The underside shots are very confidence inspiring to me,

Looks very solid!

Fantastic!

The condition of the underside sure backs up the California history of the car.
This is no east coast rust bucket!

Here is a pretty deep chip and scratch on the top of the left front fender.

A couple more engine shots

Clean!

Here is a wider shot to show the location of the paint chips

She's a cutie for sure.
Its hard to deny the attraction of a red convertible on a sunny day.

Nice radia tires on color matched wheels with new hubcaps and wheel trim rings.

Bumoers are clean original German parts, not aftermarket.

Clean paperwork and registered as a classic vehicle in Connecticut

Under the front hood you can see the new wiring harness and fuel tank.

All super clean

New horns and the correct rubber boot

Nice carpets and clean detailing on controls

Windshield and dash pad look great.
Radio block off plate is correct Ghia only part.

Lets roll!
Looks like a beautiful day along the coast!

Steering wheel is nice and clean, instruments look good as well.

Good lines down the sides.

Install the top, perhaps a little touch up and a buff.
Maybe install the body trim and mirror or a few nice accessories to dress it up a bit.
The current owner has taken it as far as he wants to take it and has had his fun.
Now its up to the next owner to take it to the next level.

Love that interior

Its a neat little car and it is priced right.
These Karmann Ghias have been steeply on the rise in values and are getting tough to find.

This one is a great starting point for someone that wants one they can drive and enjoy just as it is
and improve a little over time.  This one is a good buy in my eyes and while winter is settling in
in the cold states, it would be a simple project to dial in and prep for spring!
