1965 VW Camper Bus For Sale

Looking for a camper that really has some soul and character?
This one is stellar in that department!
1965 model that has been a camper since new.
The model is a rare one...called an Alabama Camper, these could be ordered through
Montgomery Wards according to the owner.
There were so many different camper conversion companies out there in the 60's that were
filling in the gaps that VW could not fill with the Westfalia models.

The paint is original and is well worn all the way around.
The body is overall pretty straight and smooth and the rust is minimal
It is a fully operational and functional driver that the owner has used many times for local camping and VW events.
The fun privacy cover for the windshield and the canopy are included.

A bit of the crusties in the wheel arches...but I have seen far far worse out on the roads.

Roof and rain gutters are nice and solid.
Flip up roof vent provides some very needed ventilation on a hot day.

Black California plates.
Cool custom roof racks

Inside is mostly original and in overall nice shape.

Very fun patina on this one.
Sure...you could paint it, but I think it looks pretty cool just as it is.
It has a story to tell.
Wheels and bumpers have been repainted and look great.
Nice newer radial whitewall tires and painted hubcaps.

Some inner rocker rust on the passenger side.

Detail of the roof vent.

Storage under the rearward facing seat

Nice simple Westy inspired design.
Unique though , yet obviously from the period.

Its a great spot to hang out

Fantastic!

I like the simplistic canopy as well.

Rear seat of course flips out into a bed.

Storage under the rear seat

Underside of the bus is untouched and original.
Despite the rust on the rockers and wheel houses, the frame and major supports all look quite solid and sound.

Here is the bed spread out
Interior lights are functional

Power outlet for 110 power

Fresh air box and cab paels look great.

Dash looks very stock and un-altered.

Closet storage

Cool vintage curtains!

Nice crank out camper windows

Lots of little primer blotches and wear spots.
The drivers side rocker does have some rust in it that is covered with tape.
Detailed pics of the extent of the rust are to be posted soon.

Stock 1600cc single port engine runs fantastic.
Doghouse fan shroud and oil cooler added.
Recent clutch, throw out bearing and rear seals.
Mechanically it is ready to go, everything works and it is a fun driver.

Vintage camp stove fits nicely on the door shelf.

This cabinet has been rebuilt but is still in the original style.

Home away from home!

Under the front end...splash plan is in place.

Great spice rack set up.

Looks fresh off a movie set to me somehow...pretty fun.

Some repainted sections on the doors as you can see.

Road trip anyone?

Secondary battery hooked up on the left of the engine

Cleanly mounted trailer hitch would be awesome for a little single wheel trailer or even just slip in bike rack.

OK...this next serious of pics will show in detail the rust issues on the Bus.
Its not horrible, and replacement panels are readily available.

Not too bad on the floor here...perhaps a little patch in the corner will do

A little weakness on the drivers side as well.

Drivers side inner rocker looks pretty decent.

Passenger side inner rocker is bad

Floor and main frame rails look good in this pic.

So...that's the rusty bits.  There are some, its not a rock solid example
but its not falling apart either.

Overall the Bus is a cool one though...ad just as it is , it is a ton of fun.
Do the metal bits and a fresh coat of Velvet Green and it could be gorgeous.

I love the view of the privacy shade from the inside as well...so fun.

Front seats and interior panels are in really nice shape.

Great bed set up...very long with it all linked up to the rearward facing seat at the bulkhead.

In closing this is a neat Bus.
Run it as it is without a care and enjoy the patina or do the rust repairs and
put a fresh coat of paint on it. Its a great basis for whatever you dream.
Personally I would run it as it is and accessorize it like crazy with period trinkets.
It would be a crowd pleaser wherever you stop!
