1972 VW Type 3 Squareback Station Wagon For Sale

This is a one owner original California car.
Extremely solid, shows some age cosmetically, runs and drives great,
just serviced by a well respected mechanic in the area...ready to drive
or restore.

The car has been in Southern California it's whole life...except for when the original owner picked it up
in Germany as a part of the "Tourist Delivery" program that VW offered back then.
You could order your car at the local dealer, then fly to Germany to pick it up at the factory
and then drive it during your vacation through Europe, and then it would be shipped back home to you.

The paint is a little faded but will probably buff up a fair bit with some effort.
The body has a few minor bumps and bruises, paint scratches, etc...but no rust and
no big wrech repairs.

The worst spot on the body is a bit of a scrape along the driver's side at the back edge of the front fender and down the door.
Easily repairable. The tires are getting a little dry, but the tread is good.

Original blue California plates bolted on right over the German tourist plates that were on the car during it's maiden voyage
through Europe.

Original wheels with hubcaps..plain and simple

Overall a pretty straight car..it has survived 37 years of LA life pretty well.

Bumpers look decent, everything complete and stock.
This is a perfect base car for a cosmetic restoration.

Glass is all good...bumpers still have the rubber bump strips.

Tires have good tread but do have some sidewall cracks from age...

One of th major features of this car is the factory sunroof!
This is a pretty rare option on the Type 3 and it sure makes driving on those summer days fun.
The sunroof cranks back well, the cables have been recently replaced.

Windshield rubber looks a bit newer than the rest...glass is good.

Under the front hood is all original and untouched and will clean up really well.

Original owners manuals!

Ordered through, and serviced at Century Motor Sales in Alhambra.
The car is still in the same neighborhood, currently in the hands of a mechanic that has serviced over it's
more recent years.

Super straight and clean

Original jack in th holder.

Paint code tag is clean! Marina Blue...a classic VW hue!

Original tool kit and touch up paint!!
A new rear hatch seal is in the trunk as well...nice bonus.

Paint under the hood is glossy and clean...this is a car you could do a nice outside respray on and have
a very clean car! (it needs some interior work too...but Im getting to that)

Out back lets check out the engine...shall we?

Lift up that mat and twist the latches....

And wow! There we have the stock 1600cc fuel injected engine. The engine has just been serviced,
pulled out, cleaned up, re-sealed, and re-assembled. The fuel injection works excellent and the car truly
runs and drives great. It is road ready (OK...maye check those tires before a cross country trip...gotta play it safe)

Very clean in here.

This shows the cleanliness a bit better..

Fan bellows is in place and in good shape.

Underside of the engine is extremely clean and dry...no leaks!

Floor pans look very solid...a nice dry Western car.

looks good.

The interior shows some wear but is very complete and stock.

Front seats are in nice shape with more recent upholstery.

Very good.

Dash pad has some cracking from the hot California sun.
The carpet shows some wear but appears to be quite original.

Steering wheel has some small cracks at the spokes.

Not sure of the mileage on the car since new...Im guessing 118k

Owner would make notes with a pencil as to service increments.

Back seat in decent shape...a little more faded than the front, but not ripped up or nasty.

Original headliner is looking a little shabby but is still holding up.

Inside of the rear hatch.

Original door panels are there, but are a bit worn.

Saggy pockets...

Production date of 8/71...one of the first 72 models.

This is a good car. I love the history and I like that it is not only a very solid and unmolested car, I like also that
the mechanicals have been checked out and done and that you can now focus on making it pretty.
Either buff it up and drive it as it is, or give it a fresh squirt of Marina Blue paint
and a new interior and have a very nice car to drive about. And the sunroof...oh that sunroof. I have always had a weakness for
a factory sunroof in a Squareback... a strange fetish perhaps...but I know Im not alone.
