1961 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale

The Cal Look VW scene in Orange County has always been pretty legendary.
As time goes on and the scene and its affects on the world of VWs become
the stories passed from generation to generation, the artifacts and memorabilia
become highly prized by collectors. While there is no turning back the hands
of time, there is something special about holding an actual item that was there and a part of it.

This car and its past owner certainly were a part of it.
This is Mike Johnston's 61 Beetle.
Mike joined the Der Kleiner Panzers VW club when he was just 19 years old.
While he has now passed on to another realm. his beloved Beetle remains
and it is our extreme honor to help find it the perfect home.

As with any DKP car, the heart behind it has got to beat strong.
The engine in Mike's 61 is a proper monster, built by a DKP legend
in his own right, Ron Fleming from FAT Performance.

The FAT dyno sheet of the engine spells it out, over 150hp at peak
and 152 ft lb of torque...this one will push you back in the seat for sure!

The engine was built in 2011 which is when the complete restoration of the car was done.
2017cc engine with all the best parts installed by the best hands.

Rancho transmission built to handle the power

West Coast Classics interior, parts from CB Performance, Wolfsburg West, etc etc.
No expense was spared on the build of this car and every receipt was kept and will come with the car.

New oil filter and oil will come with it as well.

The stock original bumpers come with the car as well!

The car is in fantastic condition inside and out.

The car was done in the true classic Cal Look style with t bar bumpers
shaved body trim and smooth rubbers.

Nose down stance and classic chrome wheels with nipple hubcaps.

Really nice quality paint and body...it has the look for sure.

The DKP 1 license plate says it all of course for those that are in the know about such things.

As a rule in the DKP club, when a car is sold, the club decals and emblems must come off
unless the car is sold to another club member, or there is approval of the new owner by the club to become a member.
I don't know how that all really plays out or how it is policed, but for the sake of advertising the car
and keeping everyone happy, please expect that the club references on the car will NOT come with it.

Nice reflection down the side here...this car is straight!

Narrowed and adjustable front beam on the car with KYB gas adjust shocks

Spring plate adjusters in the rear

Included in the photo array are a bunch of underside shots...my apologies for the
randomness of the angles and lighting, but the seller did the best she could.

You can tell from the shots though
that its a pretty solid and straight up car underneath

Access holes for carb adjustment.
Cool old school aluminum valve covers

Single muffler exhaust...very old school

I dig the chrome 356 wheels and caps as they are absolutely what was being done back in the day.

Interior is super clean and well done by the masters at West Coast Classics

German square weave carpets, professionally fitted seat upholstery,
not just some cheese pull over seat covers.

Door panels as well

Dash is super clean and un-cut
Monster tach tucked down low and no futher gauges or mods

Clean under the front hood too.
Restored jack in the holder, nice finish work in the areas
most folks dont look.

That paint looks miles deep!

Close up of the T bars...these are the hex bar design just like the first ones back in the day.

Fuel gauge stick

Some more engine room details
Weber carbs

Very clean and well sorted.
A purpose built machine

In closing this is a pretty special Beetle with a great back story and a fat stack of receipts to
show the level of work and quality parts put into it. Its far more than just an old Beetle though,
it is a bit of Cal Look history and a rare opportunity to get a real deal DKP car.
