1944 VW Kubelwagen For Sale

Here is another of the rarest of the rare when it comes to VWs.
This is a genuine WW2 1944 Kubelwagen.
Germany's answer to the Jeep.

This car was delivered on October 16th 1944 to Heereszeugamt Kassel.
Shortly after delivery it is thought that the car went straight to Russia or Czechoslovakia.
After the war it was left there and the car does have some historical papers showing it was registered in
Czechoslovakia in the 1950s.  The car was restored by a marque expert in Austria in 2008/2009
where it remained in his private collection with other WW2 era VWs until being bought by the current owner in Germany.

The car is one of the most correct and original examples you will find.
These cars lead extremely hard lives and many of the examples you see today have been built with many
replacement a reproduction parts. Original parts were used wherever possible and only a few sheet metal parts
replaced so that the quality of the restoration would not be compromised.
These are very bare bones vehicles with most panels visible from both sides.
Replacing a fender rather than endlessly re-working a damaged original is often the best way through the task.

Seat frames are all original, the jerry cans and the rare heating lamp are original parts.

The top has been restored to the correct detail for the year.
The rear window with flap is correct, often you will see a plastic window in its place.

Turn signals have been added to allow it to pass the strict German TUV inspection to make it road legal
but these are easily removed for the purist if desired.

Complete top to bottom restoration and again, all done with the period correct parts.
The transaxle and front suspension are reportedly original to the car as is the impressively solid floorpans.

Engine is very clean beneath.

This is definitely a museum quality piece all the way through.
The car is well known among the "purists" for the model and it has received high praise for its quality.

One of the fun bits about these WW2 era cars are the deep details.
The "cog wheel" logo is present in so many places such as here on the carburetor.

This one was really done right, not over-restored with glossy finishes,
but done with the correct matte paint and slightly crude details of these very early production models.

The engine in this Kubel dates properly to 1944, so it is period correct, but it is not the matching number original
that the car left the factory with. It is the correct "bullet proof" case with the stronger casting and 8mm bolts that came
into play from 1944 onward. This engine was originally fitted to a Schwimmwagen apparently.

Jerry can fuel cans were left in original finish for a feel of history.
These are period correct German items.

Front axle beam is the original.
During assembly of the car, the original German "Ribe" bolts and hardware were used wherever possible.

The car has been driven since completion and as you can see there is just a bit of road grime apparent below.
This could be detailed and cleaned if desired, but the joy of having such a car is to take it out and play with it.
The steering box on the car is a later model unit that is a vast improvement to the original.
Tires are excellent on the correct riveted 16" steel wheels.

Horn and lighting is correct and fully functional

Such a great machine!

Seeing original details is a treat.
So many of these were completely beat to death...they were wartime tools and they survived a war.
There are some great resources out there where people have carefully reproduced things like seat frames
and springs, but there is nothing quite like the absolute originals.

Tool case is present

Controls and switches are originals

No frills

Body number

Original floors are in amazing shape!

Correct exhaust

Original jack is present

Proper early distributor

Extremely rare original air cleaner is present.
The car runs and drives very well and is a turn key, ready to enjoy vehicle.

Racks for the weapons have been nicely restored.

Top frame is the original, an item that is rarely intact when these are found.

Seat frames were left as found, but obviously the upholstery is all new.
If one desired a "showroom" level finish on everything, this would be a simple
thing to repaint, but the originality adds a very real sense of history to the car when you look at it.

Proper markings on the doors and fenders

Water can

Numbers on the front beam

Detail of the steering box.

Extremely solid example

Its even got the shovel!

Chassis number

Note the markings on the bolts...I love when someone goes to this level when it comes to a restoration.
It means they truly know and understand the differences and respect it well enough to put it back the right way.

Cog logo shift knob

Excellent

Proper small roller pedal.

What a great car.

Blackout covers for the lights included

Proper body tag, correct style rivets...this is the real deal all the way through.

In closing this is really as fine of an example of a Kubel as you would hope to find.
Well documented, very correct, very nice quality restoration with respect to originality.
Its something I feel that any collector would be proud to have in their collection.
