1963 15 Window Deluxe Microbus For Sale

The split screen Deluxe Busses are quickly becoming the most highly prized of the vintage VW scene
and it seems that each year the prices climb ever higher. The sunroof deluxe models seem to lead the way
but this model, the hardtop Deluxe is right behind them. In fact if you look at production numbers,
the hardtop Deluxe models, especially in the pre 64 years, are quite a bit rarer.
This particular example, a 1963 model  with the sought after walk through front seats is a pretty impressive example.
It has just emerged from a very long, complete, every nut and bolt restoration.
It is about as fresh as they get...with only a couple hundred miles on the clock since being completed.

There are a lot of details that I will show you here that make this far and above the majority on the market today.
From the "one eyed duck" to the chassis and suspension is is extremely clean and sanitary.

Quality parts were used wherever possible and many original bits were kept such as the
original taillight lenses shown here.

Proper emblems and handles..

Being a 63 model, this is the last year for the corner window Busses.
It is amazing how much money these two little windows add to the value of a Bus.

Very straight body and excellent paint.
All new window rubber and body seals.
Aluminum trim is correct and in excellent condition.

Bumpers have the proper aluminum trims as well,

The underside of the Bus is as clean as the top with many nice details like the spring plates and hardware shown here.

Rockers are superb and solid.

Jailbars are all present in the windoiws...the aluminum luggage bar is on the back seat.

Wolfsburg crest horn push is correct for the Deluxe model and the steering wheel is nicely restored.

Headliner is all new...dome lights and all electricals are functional.

Interior is wonderfully clean and well trimmed.

The walk through front seats are a highly prized option.

Everywhere you look it is almost surgically clean.

Fuel gauge is an original.
It seems to read off just a bit...perhaps a 6 volt gauge with the 12 volt electrics?
It is functional though.

Speedometer is very clean.

Chrome door handles are proper for the Deluxe.

Very very straight body on this Bus

The Safari windows are not original to this Bus but are a welcome and desired accessory.

We photographed this Bus at the VW Jamboree here in Southern California which was the very first show the Bus went to.
It managed a first in class and the very next day took another fisrt in class in a multi brand event up against
a wide variety of European vehicles including Porsches and Mercedes!

Headlight lenses are original Hella units.

The turn singla lenses are aftermarket ones with the silver ring instead of the proper chrome ring.
An easy swap for the anal owner if it bothered you...

Great color combo (a correct combination for 1963 by the way)

Really a super clean Bus from all angles.

Proper 15" steel wheels and "slash" end bumpers.

Splash guards are in place on the rear bumper.

Fit and finish on everything is really nice.

Oh so smooth

Latches are all clean, hardware is all new.

Tires are new on all four corners and the spare.
Basic blackwall radials.
I would love to see some whitewalls on this Bus...it would look amazing!

Underside is wonderfully clean.

Nice!

Pop out latches...

Hinges are all clean and all caps and trims are in place.

Interior is spotless.
The hardcore "guru" fanatic may notice the heat seamed seat pleats which replicate the original
stitched pleats. Also the headliner is done in a very nice light grey, rather than the factory off white.
(I must admit...they grey looks better in my opinion!)

Domelights are the originals, not the plastic reproductions that are out there.

Dash is excellent.

Floors are amazing.

Walk through front seats...oh yeah!!

The kick panels below the seats lack the original aluminum trim but are very well fitted and look great.

The center seat is actually from a newer year.
The differences are very minor, most notably the size of the armrest pad and the direction
the support rod comes out of the frame. The proper 63 seat would have a smaller pad and the support would come up from
the back of the seat rather than the front corner. Also on the early seat there was a grab handle that went across the top edge.

This is of course a detail that only the hardcore VW guys will notice.

Deluxe dash clock

Door panels are very nice and in the correct materials and patterns.

Again...floors are amazing.

Controls are all clean and properly painted.

So nice!

Rear luggage deck is also very cleanly painted.

Nice

The underside of the engine is very clean and dry.

12 volt electrics.

Original oil bath air cleaner.

The engine is a sweetly detailed and freshly rebuilt 1600cc single port.
Mechanical advance distributor, alternator versus generator as original,
A bit more power than the original 40 horse without looking like a hot rod when you pop the lid.

Under the Bus it is so very clean...wow!

Front beam is super clean!

So sharp!
With so many Busses out there being restored by people trying to make a quick buck,
it is refreshing to see a restoration done to this level...it takes a lot of time and effort to get
a Bus this clean underneath.

Frame and underside have a very light texture coat to the finish which looks much more realistic than a lot of the
over-restored glossy finished undersides on some busses.

In closing this is obviously a very nice Bus.
In fact it is in the "beyond nice" catagory quite easily.
Showroom condition inside and out...very well done.
