1955 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale

This Arizona based 55 Beetle has perhaps one of the most amazing patinas that I have ever seen.
The original paint finish has been aged by the desert sun to a really beautiful
and very consistent surface rust without any perforation or or "rot" that seems
to accompany this look so often.

All original body panels are in place and they all have aged to such a pleasant look.
This is some of Mother Nature's best work I must say
and I am certain that whoever buys this will be someone that sees the beauty in it just as it is.
It would be a shame to paint it.

The current owner has gotten the car back on its wheels and it is a runner and driver.
New brakes, cleaned fuel system and the original little 36hp engine runs well.

Its had a few "character modifications" like the cutting out of the center
part of the over rider bar on the front bumper.

Great fit to the hood and fenders...this car has not been wrecked

There are a few small bumps and bruises, but they just add to the overall humble greatness of the car.

Here is another dent that was pounded out but never painted or smeared with filler.

That front end is SO perfect

And so is the rear!

Windshield does have a crack in it and as expected all the rubber seals are very dry.

Interesting to pop the chrome off and see that original paint color...wild how it has faded!

Patina perfection right here!

I can imagine this done many ways... left as is it is amazing but I have
seen some incredible cars done with a color sand and polish, or coat of gloss to seal it all.
Lowered with your choice of wheels, new interior, mild performance engine...etc.
This is the ultimate car to take and massage to your liking.

The interior is pretty untouched but the original headliner and carpet are gone.

Original door panels look cool though.
This is a late 55 car that still retains the ribbed doors and bat wing steering wheel
but has the US spec bullet signals and 56 taillights from the factory

Chassis number

Door jams are nice and solid

In this shot you can see the original Ultramaroon paint color
The exterior has faded to such a lovely gold tone, but the sun has not
cooked the interior paint nearly as much.

Very solid floors in the car which is awesome to see

Original upholstery on the rear seat

Very solid pans

Amazing

Front seats have been mummified in black tape.

Dashboard looks awesome, no cuts or modifications

Its even rock solid under the battery!

New 6 volt Optima battery.

Cool "cruiser pedal"

Original jack is present.
The seats are the correct early non-adjustable back units.

Some great age to the paint on the dash as well.

Original bat wing steering wheel and horn push.

Clear needle speedo with a perfectly yellowed needle.

Wrap these babies in some nice Mexican blankets and roll with it!
Or go all the way and do the interior all plush and pretty and leave the patina to the outside surfaces.

Under the front hood is stock, simple and solid.

Amazing original grease pencil markings from the factory!
No doubt whatsoever where this one was headed!

Solid and straight

The engine is a runner! The patina certainly matches as well.

Case number for those that like to look that stuff up.

Rear apron at the bottom center seems to be the only spot of rust damage.

The passenger side rear bumper mount has also had some repair done.

Somebody went a little wild with a home welder and some scrap to strengthen this support.

The rest of the fender wells look great and untouched.

Original fenders with the right stampings and original hardware.

Fantastic

New brake lines and wheel cylinders

Just surface rust.

Never undercoated which is super cool to see

So straight!

So here you go...this is a really rare find in this shape
and for those that are fans of patina, I dont think you could find anything much better than this.
Add to that the unique details of the late 55 USA Delivery cars, this makes it a great conversation starter
among enthusiasts. Ribbed doors, but no semaphores, bat wing wheel and bullet front fenders...
its really an excellent example of the progressive refinements the factory did between model years
and the changes made for the US market cars.

What a great car and a great find.
I'm excited to see where this goes and what the new owner will do with it.
