1955 VW Beetle Convertible Project For Sale
While we often have beautiful fully restored cars advertised here on Oldbug
we are always open to listing some interesting "barn finds" and projects.
This unrestored and well worn 1955 Beetle convertible is a well worthy project.
Convertible Beetles in the Oval era and earlier are truly a rare breed.
Hard to find in any condition here in the US and as a result of that rarity
they are highly prized by collectors worldwide.
This Indiana based project looks to have spent a bit of time outside of the barn
unfortunately as the rust is significant, but certainly repairable and quite complete with the rarest parts intact.
Spare tire well looks crispy but not blown out.
Door sills are holding
Window frames and mechanisms are all there, some glass is cracked
others are OK
The very hard to find rear view mirror assembly is here
Heather channels and support rails will need replacement as well as the pans
Rear apron has been trimmed a bit for exhaust pipes but might be repairable
Top frame is present
Latches and pull handles are still here on the top
Correct early convertible seats
Ribbed doors are an early detail. In 56 the inner stamping changed as well as door latches, etc
Transmission is present and appears to be original split case unit.
No engine
Some welding to do
This appears to be an early US spec model with the bullet turn signals
and 56 style taillights, despite being the "early Oval" body model.
No semaphores, and it has the "ram protection" overriders on the bumper

Original door panels still hanging in there
Karmann body tag present
Dash is clean and unmodified.
Locking hood latch and ignition switch with key
Rear glass and frame are here!
Original domelight as well
Top trim
She needs some lovin for sure...but what an exciting project to take on.

Not a project for the un-skilled, but in the right hands this awesome
early Convertible could be restored to its former glory.
The hard to find stuff is here and that makes it a great basis to start from.
