1956 VW Beetle Oval Ragtop For Sale

This great Oval ragtop packs a little surprise under the engine lid...a
Porsche engine!
That is right, the powerplant is a 1967 Porsche 912 1750cc ...yee haww!!

More on the drivetrain later...lets check out all the pretty shots
the owner sent of it along the California coast.

The car has been in California it's whole life and the thrid owner was
a mechanic
at Monterey Porsche BMW. He decided to give it a little more punch I
suppose!

The car has been in the hands of the current (and 4th owner) for quite
some time.
It has been a weekend- fun car for the most part, but whenever his
daily driver 1970 VW Bus
gives him greif, the Beetle gets put into daily use.
It is a fantastic driver and has been quite reliable for him.

The car is located roughly 300 miles north of Los Angeles in the town
of Soledad.

The car has been a good one for the owner and he hates to see it go,
but medical reasons are pushing him to let it go.

Smooth body and paint...it is a an older restoration but shows
wonderful care.

The bright chrome and the Porsche wheels look great against the black
paintwork.

Very pretty little car.

The Euro bumper guards give it a clean look.

Interior is in nice condition showing only minor wear from use.

Headliner is a nice mohair type material.

Chassis number is original and proper for 56.

Here is a paint chip on the drivers side rear fender edge.

Another little scratch on another fender.

Minor pitting on the door handle chrome

But overall it looks fantastic!

Check out that reflection in the paint!

The owner has provided excellent care for the car including running a
lead substitute and proper service.

The bag of sand is a bit of a laugh, but it holds the front end down
just enough to sit nice and level.
The wood hood prop is in use to insure that nobody gives the hood a kink
on the original hood prop, which is currently removed.

Wiring is very clean and clear.
The owner has just recently disconnected the speedometer cable as the
speedo was getting noisy!

The electrics have been converted to 12 volt by the way.

With the sand bag out of the way the spare tire well area appears quite
straight and solid.

Jack and tool roll are included...I believe that is a Porsche tool roll
by the way...not the VW.

Body number

Very minor paint blister on the passenger side door.

Small scratch on the drivers side rear fender.

Sunroof handle.

Sunroof works well.

Sorry for the fuzzy photos...door panels are in nice shape.

Speedometer has developed a noise...so it may need some lubrication or
repair.

Steering wheel shows some minor wear, dash looks very clean.

Clarion radio in the dash with stock VW knobs.

German square weave carpets.

Fantastic vintage floor mats.

Great old coco-mats...love this!

Extremely solid car...even in the battery area it looks good.

Luggage area nicely carpeted.

Rubber floor mats could use a quick clean...

Overall the interior is quite presentable.

Back outside she's a beauty!

Very very light pro window tint classes it up a bit as well...you
barely notice it.

OK...are you ready to look in the back?
I know I am!!

1967 model Porsche 912 engine.

Fits in just wonderfully!

Stock Solex carbs have just recently been rebuilt a couple months back.
The car purrs like a kitten after 5 minutes of warm up and when the "go
pedal" is mashed to the floor
it really gives a roar!

Polished firewall.

Bosch 022 distributor.
The engine is totally stock with the exception of a big bore piston and
cylinder kit that bumps the
displacement up to 1750cc.

The Porsche engine is a neat upgrade...it keeps a period performance
look and feel
and value wise...these babies are expensive!
If you ever wanted to go back to stock with this car you could pocket
some serious coin with the sale of this engine.

Awesome!

Porsche wheels and hubcaps are a nice touch.

Tires are excellent by the way.

Underside of the engine is very clean.
I like the stock "looking" exhaust set up...perfect to retain that
"sleeper" look.
Oh...and the transmission is a full synchromesh gearbox from a later
model by the way.

Cassis and underside are not show detailed but it is obvious
in these photos that this is one very solid car!

Here you can see the trans... a wise upgrade from the split case unit
to handle the horsepower of the Porsxhe engine.

Floorpans are super solid!!

Dreamy!

In closing this is a really neat car.
It has that vintage charm through and through, yet is packs a
delightful punch with the drivetrain
and makes it a totally different car to drive. Very very solid and well
maintained
excellent runner and driver and it is a desireable Oval sunroof model
as well.
