Very Original 1967 Beetle Sedan For Sale
So, the story of the car is the best part about it all.
It was bought it new in Buena Park California and it has lived there almost
it's entire life.
The car was always garaged
and was well maintained. A full compliment of service records and everything
show it's history clearly.
The car is mostly all original paint. The rear apron and fenders have had
some touch up but the rest appears to
be all the original Wolfsburg applied finish. Its a little dirty from sitting
but I am very sure that it will polish up
greatly. There is simply nothing like original paint...so smooth.
The body over all is very straight. It has a few small dings and scratches
here and there as you would
expect from an original car, but as you can see it is still quite presentable
indeed.
1967 is a pretty special year for the Beetle by the way and they are highly
sought after by collectors.
There are many "one year only" parts on a 67 that make it stand
out among the rows of Beetles
at the shows. The decklid is perhaps one of the more noteable exterior
differences.
Same for the rear bumper and reverse lights.
Original black plate car of course, which is getting rarer to find.
For those of you not "in the know" about this whole "black
plate" thing...here's the story.
In 1963 the state of California issued new plates to all registered vehicles.
From that point on until
about 1974, each plate was black with yellow letters and the number/letter
combinations were issued
in order. Im not totally up on what prefixes are what month, but you can
tell when the car was registered
based upon the plate number. This helps to establish weather a car has
been in California since new.
In many cases cars change hands and the black plates are lost along the
way, but in some case like this one,
the car still retains both of it's original plates which believe it or
not adds some true value to the car to the
hard core collectors. I have heard of people spending extra on cars with
these plates.
And once they are gone, they can not be re-issued to a car.
Oh...and check out that original dealer plate frame too!
Original 1500 cc engine runs very well.
A new carburator was installed recently and otherwise is all original equipment
top to bottom.
The 67 engines have a few one year only parts on the too, like the double
snorkle air cleaner and some of the engine tins.
It sure is nice to see one with all of that in place.
Odometer reads 85,912 miles which is thought to be the original mileage
on the car.
There is a stack of service records to back this up but I must admit that
I didnt search through them at the time I took the photos
to confirm it all, but judging by the condition of the car I would say
it's correct.
The paint on the dashboard is excellent by the way...look how smooth and
pretty it is.
Here's a full shot of the dash.
There are some rare and fun accessories in here too that were installed
when the car was new.
Check out the wood knobs and the chrome ashtray and glove box door...
And the ultra rare Sapphire VIII 8 Track Stereo!!
Yes...I said 8 Track!!
Ive seen the chrome ashtrays and glove box doors on occasion and from what
I have gathered they were a popular
add on in the period. I dont believe that it was a genuine VW accessory,
but I could be mistaken.
Original owner manual pouch.
Good ol Cotton Goff Volkswagen...they used to be one of the biggest VW
dealers in Orange County.
Original owner id card.
Owners manual and distributors book.
Original purchase date of March 17th 1967.
All the past registration slips..
The lady owner had kept everything.
The classic Elfrink manual...
Service records.
Original 67 only window cranks.
Some wear to the carpet and the rubber mat but still all original stuff.
The biggest shift knob I have ever layed eyes on.
Cant travel without the St Christopher medal... I love this sort of thing.
Original headliner is holding up well.
A couple small prick holes but that's about it.
Section under the rear window had some sun baking and has been removed.
Original seats
A little dirty but a good scrub and a little vinyl protectant and the interior
will clean up beautifully.
Same for the door panels...these will scrub up really nice.
Rear panels too.
Remember...that 8 track in the dash is a stereo unit and you cant have
stereo without two speakers.
Here the dealer installed them under the rear seat in the kick panels...
nice!
Very clean door jams.
Original retractable seat belts in front.
Are you starting to see the beauty of this car yet?
If you have ever worked on old VW's before you know just how much nicer
it is to work on an all original
car than one that has been restored. The German's knew what they were doinng
and nothing fits like the original stuff.
The original wheels have just been stripped and powder coated.
The centers of the wheel should be black for originality sake...but these
look clean and
you just cant beat a powder coat finish.
Small dent in the drivers side front fender...its a soft one and I bet
you could press it out carefully.
Note the original accessory gravel guards.
Small soft dent in the hood as well... typical garage storage damage...nothing
major by any means.
1967 was the first year for he sealed beam hedlights out on their own.
Previous years had the big glass lens over the lights.
Another soft dent in the passenger side front fender.
Some paint scrapes on the passenger side rear fender.
Original german taillight lenses.
Just squint a little and picture this with a fresh coat of wax and everything
detailed out... I can see it...can you?
Under the hood is a bit dirty but everything is wonderfully still in place.
Original jack is still in it's holder.
The chain off the fule tank was another original accessory...a lock for
the spare tire.
Ive seen this quite a few times on Beetles sold locally here in Southern
California.
Not sure if other states had this...kinda fun.
Very very straight and proper up here.
A very good scrubbing and some wax will do amazing things up here.
Front apron is excellent. Hood latch is dusty but will clean up with a
little scrub.
There is some paint deterioration under the brake fluid resevoir, so that
would require some careful touch up
if you wanted to make everything look as sweet as can be. The rest should
polish up really nice.
Original tool roll.
The side plates for the front seats are up under the hood as well as a
cool vintage replacement fan belt.
Original cardboard wiring cover is in excellent shape.
Nice and shiny and smooth under the hood.
OK...she all looks good on the top side...but how about her under belly???
OK you East Coast guys...look at this...dont it bring a tear to your eye?
This is one solid car.
Original undercoating is solid and undistrubed.
Very solid and proper.
No rust in the fender wells.
Solid up in front behind the front wheels too.
Headlight buckets still have the drain tubes in place, everything as it
should be.
Even the passenger side under the battery is dreamily solid and rust free.
Here's a little better shot of this side...
So... how did I do? Did I convince you that this is a nice solid original
car?
(Well that's not hard to do...it's quite obvious)
Can you see past the dirt and grime and visualize how clean this will be
when properly detailed?
I sure hope so. Its a nice car indeed and they are getting harder and hardr
to find in this condition.
