This late 50's Peugeot bicycle has been mine for almost 30 years.
I bought it back in around 1979 or 80 and proceeded to clean it up and
ride it.
I used it for many local rides, did a few amateur races with it and a couple
of long distance organized rides and
it was a fantastic bike and it performed well for me and always attracted
some attention from fellow riders.
I knew it was old at the time, but I never realized quite how old it was
until I recently pulled it out of the garage
for a closer look and did a little internet research.
Based on my findings, the bike dates back to about 1958 or 1959 and is
a PLX-10 model,
which was the predecessor to the famed PX-10.
It truly was at the top of the line for the era and is today highly prized
by collectors
The bike is very original and in quite amazing shape for it's age.
These photos show it fresh from the garage, the bike has not been detailed
yet...still layers of dust on it
and I am positive that with some careful cleaning and a little polish it
will be even more spectacular.
The paint and graphics are all original and are quite vibrant.
Aluminum head badge... note the Simplex shifters on the frame.
You can see the dust on th frame here under the badge...one wipe and it's
back to the deep blue original finish.
Lug pattern is classic Peugeot and the colors are totally correct.
Stem and bars appear to be original...I wrapped the bars back in the 80's
and put on the yellow cable housing too.
I remember dabbing a little paint on the stem bolt...not sure why.
The brake handle hoods were replaced back then as well...I remember them
being tough to find.
This was one of the earliest Peugeot bicycles to use the Reynolds 531 tubing
which very quickly became the tubing of choice for high end bikes through
the 60 and 70s
Original decals in pretty nice condition...a couple of chips but quite
impressive for the age.
The bike has obviously been well cared for...I know I always kept it in
tip top shape.
I did re-lace the rear wheel with stainless spokes back in the 80's, the
front is still original spokes.
Stronglight cranks are in very nice shape...some chrome pittin on the crank
arms but the chain rings are in great shape
and should polish up to a jewler's finish with a little "elbow grease".
Boy Im a bit embarassed about how dusty the derailleur is... again, fresh
out of storage here...and with very little effort
this will again be sparky clean. This Simplex unit is very interesting
with it's conical spring.
I always kept it spotlessly clean and well lubed and it worked great
Rigida Chrolux rims are in very good condition and will polish up beautifully...the
rear one still has it's decal.
Tires are basic clinchers that I installed back then.

I am happy to take more photos of any desired component for you or
provide any information I can.
Ive not been able to establish a fair market value for the bike
due to it's rarity. Ive scouted all over and have
not found it's equal or any sales information. I have put a very low starting
bid and have put a reserve price
on the bike that I think is quite fair...and if the bidding is spirited,
I will probably drop the reserve and just let it fly.
Its an emotional sale for me...Ive had this bike for a long long time,
but it's a shame to see it sit...it really needs to
be in the hands of a true collector that can give it the attention it deserves.
So...Bid High and Bid Often!!
Dont miss out on a very rare opportunity to aquire a classic 50's Peugeot
PLX-10.
