1971 VW Westfalia Camper For Sale

The VW Westfalia Campers are undeniably cool machines.
The fun classic looks of the VW Bus with the added factor of being able to
hang out in them and sleep comfortably and really get away from it all.
Its the ultimate escape pod from the fast moving world of today.

This one is located in the San Diego area and has been a pet project of the owner
for quite some time. A skilled craftsman and creator, this fellow has assembled a very
unique machine with custom touches you will not see again.
He built a custom little trailer to pull behind it too by the way, and if desired this
will go with the Bus.

Back to the Bus itself, the condition is very good inside and out.
The body seems quite solid and straight and the finish quality is nice.
It is not a flawless paint job, but it shows very well.
The interior is really special, but I will get into that in a bit.

New pop top canvas in blue looks fantastic with the body color.

Front mounted spare wheel gives more room in the interior for camping.

Great color combination, a very fun and happy camper.
(and yes...that is an air conditioner in the rear window)

Canvas on the pop top from the inside

Seals are very good, Westfalia logo on the top.

Slide rail attached to the gutter for a shade cloth.

Nice

Excellent tires

Luggage rack is nice and clean

All flaps open!

Underneath  the Bus is well sorted and quite solid.

It is an excellent runner and driver and is ready for adventure.

Looking good and sound around the front

Clean and dry

The Bus is set up with a few very cool accessories that make it a fantastic camper.
The window mounted 110v air conditioner was installed with no modifications to the body"
and could easily be removed, but when hooked to power it chills the inside right on down even in the
hottest climates.  The refrigerator and microwave oven installed inside are even more amazing upgrades!

Yes...I said microwave oven!

Matching camp stool

This is so cool!
And check out the amazing woodwork inside!

Quick trip out back to see the very clean and strong running dual port engine that powers the beast.
Mild performance and reliability upgrades.
12 volt alternator, mechanical advance distributor, oil temp and pressure gauges.
Deep oil sump for added capacity and more.

Engine and trans have been rebuilt  recently and are very strong and ready to roll.

External oil filter mounted in the engine room corner.

Very clean in here.

Runs awesome!

Rear seat and rock and roll bed is beautifully finished and has a great material fitted.
High quality shoulder belts have been installed here for hauling the grand kids around!

Mounts for the shoulder belts are firmly attached to the rear luggage area.
Easily removable if desired.

Here is an inside detail of the A/C unit install. Slipped right in the factory window home and trimmed with a nice filler panel.
This nice light compact unit cools the space right down and the little fan gives the air a little extra push
towards the front.  This is designed to run on 110v service, so plugged in at a campground with hookups
you are good for as long as you like. The owner often would put a small generator in the trailer behind it for those times
when power was not available.

The owner is a long time woodworker and teacher and he certainly
used his talents in the interior finishes.

The cabinetry on the interior is all custom as is the amazing floor.
Here he has a nice vinyl material to cover the wood so it is protected.

Underneath the cover ...check out that wonderful floor!

Even the roof paneling has a wonderful finish.

I love the material choice.

110v fridge hidden inside a custom built cabinet.

Wired for sound throughout with a nice stereo and speakers throughout the cabin

Simply gorgeous!

Fridge and microwave

Interior up front is all like new

Check out that amazing custom wood tablel in back.

Fold out cup holders up front

Super clean!

Wow!

Front floor under the mat

Door panels are like new.

So pretty

Love it!

I just love the floor and woodwork in here.
I sat down for a moment in the back seat and took in the view.
It is a very neat space to be.

Original body tags

Auxiliary instruments under the dash

Cant stop looking at this!

Rockers look very solid.

Odometer reads a bit over 40k miles.

Excellent clean dash and controls

A California Bus for many many years with the blue California plates.

Body is nice and straight.
There are a few chips and scratches in the paint, but no major damage

Tires are excellent!

Custom tow hitch has been installed for pulling the utility trailer.
It is a receiver style hitch as well, so it could be used
with a slip in bike rack or shelf.  The exhaust is a Beetle style unit with the tweeter pipes
that neatly go right around the hitch.

Oil temp and pressure.

Looks sound in the corners

Rubber mat in excellent shape

Super clean and smooth around the windshield

Kenwood CD head unit with aux cable input on the face for your ipod.

Noise looks very nice and straight along the lower edge

Here is the trailer that is included in the sale if desired.
Nice finished woodwork to match the interior.

In closing this is a very neat and unique camper.
It looks to be a nice solid and straight example underneath all the shiny bits
and the overall finish is very pleasing. Impressive and unique custom interior
and fitting of some very cool camping bits inside (when is the last time you saw a microwave in a VW?)
This Bus has been an obvious labor of love for the owner. It is truly something special.
