1967 Meyers Manx Dune Buggy For Sale

This early Meyers Manx Buggy is a very clean survivor
that was discovered in New York and brought out to California in 2021
for a new lease on life.

The gel coat finish is original and un-restored and is in very nice shape.

In photos the finish looks amazing, but up close you can see the subtle patina that
you would expect from original fiberglass from 55 years ago.

This is what is referred to by collectors as a "Pre-Tag" Manx.
When production really started ramping up
in late 1967 and early 68, the folks at BF Meyers finally realized
they should try to keep track of what was happening with these bodies
and in February of 1968 they started affixing body tags with serial numbers
that also told color and production date.

Bodies built prior to March of 68 had no tag like this one, and as a result
of that are highly regarded by collectors as something that makes them rarer than the later production cars.
Roughly 1400 pre-tag Manx 1 bodies were built from summer of 1966 through January of 1968
and this is one of those cars.

The body has been certified by Meyers by the previous owner back when Bruce and Winnie first
started the process in the 1990's. This is Manx number 33 on the registry and the signed certification
comes with it, signed by Bruce and Winnie.

The color of this body is quite uncommon as well, being a solid Royal Blue.
It seems that far more customers went with the metal flake than the solid colors.

Bruce himself had of course the legendary "Old Red" Manx, but he also had an "Old Blue"
in this same Royal Blue color that was used in marketing and advertising.
Another Royal Blue Manx made it to the silver screen in the Disney film
"The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" in 1969 with Kurt Russell.

This car has been done in a very tasteful period correct style.
Since the body is so original and so many of the parts are the originals fitted to the car
it just makes sense to keep it simple and proper the way Bruce designed them.

The headlights are the original Dietz 820 buckets.
The front bumper is original, with faded chrome and added fog light mounts.
The nose emblem is the early re-issue done by Bruce when the certification process started
up in the late 90's/early 2000's.

Genuine Meyers Manx "Sidewinder" exhaust.
Stainless engine cover panel below the license plate.
(Black California plate is for display only...not titled to the car)

Porsche 356 rear reflectors are a cool period touch.

The car sits nice with its big and little tire combination.
No body lift or anything silly.

There are some small holes in the body underneath the headlights and along the fender edge
that have been carefully filled and touched up.

The driving lights are rare period NOTEK brand lights with blue centers.
These are not wired up at the moment but should be...they look awesome on there!

Fender mount bullet mirrors are an awesome period perfect touch

The windshield is in great shape with no cracks or chips.
This was sourced from a past dune buggy dealer in Northern California.
It had never been installed and had only the lightest shelf wear to the aluminum finish.
It looks perfect on the car.

The front seats are Empi "Roadster" units that have that perfect 60's style.

The original ABS dash remains in the car and has a couple small cracks and flaws.
The center and side panels had been cut for assorted speakers and switches
so matching ABS panels were shaped and fitted to bring it back to the proper Manx level of simplicty.

The rear seat was custom made by a local upholstery shop to match the pattern and style of the
Empi seats up front.

Stock Beetle steering wheel with horn ring looks cool.
The tags on the inside body are from the buggies past life on the east coast
when it must have raced in a couple of events.

The roll bar is the original, the taillights are VW units from 1962-67
and are the most common choice for these early buggies.

License plate light was sourced from a Type 3 VW Squareback

Manx emblem

Brand new tires on all four corners!

The wheels were a set of NOS chrome wide-5 "Pacer" wheels by Appliance Wheels
that were found in Reno Nevada. These wheels were offered in the BF Meyers catalog in period.
(If the buyer would prefer a set of white painted smoothie widened VW wheels and hubcaps
versus these...the seller can arrange the swap).

So cool!

The engine is a 1600cc dual port that runs well and has been recently
re-sealed and fully serviced.
12 volt electrics.

Empi GT finned valve covers were another NOS item found and fitted to the car
just recently. (Old stock from probably the 1990's...not the 60's)

Coco mats on the floor

Happy dog approved!

Car currently retains the New York title and paperwork.
Seller is happy to assist with title and transfer as needed for buyer.

In closing this is a pretty cool buggy.
Its a certified original Meyers Manx, so it has the proper pedigree
and being a "pre-tag" example with its original un-restored gel coat
in a fairly uncommon color, it is definitely in the sights of collectors.
There have been auction sales of other early Manx 1's in the 60-100k range!
While this example is perhaps not as flawless as those, it obviously shows very well
(especially after a fresh polish like in these pics).
Lots of great early details on this buggy as well.
