1954 "Split Window" Project Car For Sale
SOLD!

Here is a car for the dreamers out there, those that are up for the challenge of building a car the way they want to.
Not everybody is cut out for it, but if you are the type of person that
looks at this car like a blank canvas on which to create a
masterpiece...
Please follow along.

This little Beetle started life as a normal 1954 Oval hardtop car.
Somewhere along the roads of its life it had a few details changed around.
The addition of the two fold sunroof and an all steel split rear window section are the
major details, while several other smaller changes have been made as well.

One of the most impressive parts of the car to me is just how solid it is.
The floors are super sound as is the rest of the body.
It almost looks as if the chassis was restored at some point but the restorer never quite made it the
rest of the way through the car.

Being an early Oval, it has the ribbed doors and semaphore posts.
The doors are complete with the very hard to find early regulators.

Body number is present and the chassis number matches up with the number on the body tag.
The car has a clean California title.

Out back is an unknow performance engine with small dual carbs and some other upgrades.
The transmission is a fully synchromesh gear box from a later model.
Rear brakes are 4 lug drums and the front brakes are 4 lug disc.

Front beam looks surprisingly fresh.

A bit of a wiring mess under the hood.

Quite the spaghetti pile and obviously from this view you can see the dashboard has been modified.

The sunroof is cleanly installed and is the two-fold style used from 1956 to 1963

Drivers door is complete as well.
Looks pretty solid down in the jam corners.

Nice "W" decklid on the car and the overall body is really quite straight.
Would be a fantastic basis to just build something fun and crazy.
The split rear window will draw the admiring eyes like crazy and the vast majority of the world
will never know it was not a factory creation.

The more I look at this, the more my creative juices start flowing...
maybe a full body Class 11 style baja look in desert cammo?
Or just go full Cal Look with it.
The opportunities are endless. This is the sort of car you can really have free reign to build the way you want to.

Oval "bullet" fenders up front are cool

Deck lid is in very nice straight shape

Split section is super well done and it is all in steel

What would YOU do with it?

Underside of the hood

Interior shot of the dashboard and that aftermarket steering wheel.

The shifter is a genuine old school Hurst trigger shifter...quite valuable to the old school Cal Lookers.

Glass is all in decent shape in the car which is another nice bonus.

Large mouth fuel tank is very clean.

Chassis number

Loosely hanging instrument panel

Well done!

Semaphore posts are here but sadly the semaphores themselves are not

Very solid chassis

Interior shot of the rear window install and the ragtop as well.
Pretty clean work and it all seems to be holding very nicely.

This is a car that I really wish I had the time to build myself.
I could have a ton of fun with this one for sure.
Unfortunately I'm stretched thin and cant take it on.
This car belonged to a good friend that recently passed away and I'm helping sell off his collection for the family.
Its a neat project for sure.
