1967 VW Kombi For Sale

1967 was the final year for German production of the split screen VW Bus.
While production continued for several years in Brazil of the model
it is the German examples that remain the most desired by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

This example was the base model, the "Kombi" that was marketed as a perfect
blend between work and pleasure. With a bare bones interior with rear seats that could be
easily removed for cargo hauling, or installed for hauling people.

This example located in a suburb near Denver Colorado appears to be a very solid
and honest old Bus that has had a repaint at some point and some very mild modification
to the suspension height and drivetrain.

Safari windows fitted front and back but otherwise as original with the standard pop outs and painted bumpers

Its no show car but it is presentable as you can see.
Body seems quite straight and solid which is great to see.

A small dent on the drivers side rocker panel.

The owner stated that he did have a couple dents in the rear repaired
when he got the bus but the remainder of the paint was left as is and just polished up.

Nose looks straight and clean.
The painted emblem and bumper look nice.

Desirable walk through front seat configuration.

Seats and panels are clean and comfy. Definitely an enjoyable driver level Bus.

Dash looks clean and un-modified.
The 67 only wide radio hole has a block out plate installed
67 only dash knobs and switches are present.

One additional gauge mounted under the dash and the cool little cup holder basket
hangs through the factory dash slots so there is no need for additional holes.

Kick panels in good shape

Very solid original floors!
This is a very good sign of the condition of the body and chassis when this area is unaffected or repaired

More gauges mounted in a pod on the front air box.
Also of note are the cool round knobs for the safari window sliders...a nice change from the original style wing nuts.

The Kombi model is sparse in the back with no headliner
and just simple hardboard panels on the side.

Clean and solid door jams

Passenger side floor looks great too

Looks like signs of a repair to the lower hinge on the drivers side door.
Door jam looks great and the door closes well with decent gap.

Walk through seat stands are clean

Cargo floor looks very solid in this Bus

The Kombi model came without the heater tube of the more passenger oriented Standard or Deluxe models.

A few small paint blisters starting on the cargo side rocker but it really looks quite solid overall.

The box on wheels!

Underside photos show it to be very solid and original overall

Transmission is a freeway flyer geared unit from Rancho Transmissions that is built to handle
a higher horsepower engine, but the owner never went into building it bigger because it runs so well as is.

Gear reduction boxes are gone with the trans swap and drop job.
As a result of this it is far more enjoyable in modern fast paced traffic.

Header exhaust with single muffler but retaining the factory heater boxes.

Oil likes run forward to an electric fan to assist with cooling the engine on hot days

Dropped front beam with disc brakes up front.

Oil cooler and fan

Looks like the inner rockers, outriggers and jack points are all very solid and original

Cross drilled brake rotors

Very solid Bus

1600cc dual port engine runs great. Mileage is unknown but when the trans was installed
the engine was serviced and detailed with powder coated engine tins and quite a few new parts.
Its been a very reliable runner and driver for the seller.

Battery area

Looks like a little distortion on this inner corner support
so it has definitely been tapped back here at some point, but the seller did mention this.
Not a perfect repair , but just fine for a driver for sure.

I like this Bus and by the looks of the details it is an early production 67 model without the
reverse lights above the taillights.

BRM wheels look nice on the Bus and are wrapped with good rubber.
The suspension is low, but not "slammed" so it still retains a decent ride.
Rear bumper looks to be the earlier "slash" end design, the front is correct for 67.

A great cruiser just as it is.
A perfect choice for someone that wants a proper solid German built example
but doesn't want to spend massive money for a Deluxe model.
If it were mine, I would call it "The Fridge"...its just such a cool and simple appliance.
