The Rocketbox , a V8 powered 1966 VW Microbus For Sale

This is the Rocket Box!
An insane over the top build completed in 2012
by Canadian car nut Bodo Reichert.
Currently located in Northern California.

Over a 10 year period, Bodo took a derelict standard bus and turned it into a ground pounder
and absolute show stopper.

The widened body structure at the rear gives hint to something far more potent
than the original 40 horsepower air cooled engine.

A lift of the hatch in back shows little clue

But deeper within the interior under carpeted doors sits the heart of the beast.

This 509 cubic inch engine and transaxle came from a mid 70's Cadillac Eldorado
Performance modifications bring the estimated horsepower up to about 560hp.
A wee bit more "oomph" than the factory set up!

Radiators on each side of the body provide the cooling
and everything is done to a high level.  Even though completed years ago,
the car still looks fresh and is ready for show.

The underside is clean and solid

Transmission cooler and electric fan stuffed underneath,
The engine and drivetrain from below looks surprisingly tame
and almost normal looking back.

Front beam remains VW but with power assisted disc brakes to help slow the beast.

Award winner constantly at events...this one always draws a crowd.

Headliner done in black pinpoint vinyl.

Custom pop out windows and latches.

No sunroof, just the skylight windows added.
Full bench seat in back with race harnesses for those
hot laps to the ice cream store.

Doors open it looks pretty normal
but the thrill ride ahead is like nothing you have experienced before in a VW Bus.

Excellent body and paint and the large side scoop job on the rear is well done
and strong.  Polished deluxe body trim looks great

Up front is clean and well detailed

Dash houses a full array of white face classic instruments

Radio mounted above on the fresh air vent.

Very sharp.

Nice custom divider wall treatment with cup holders

And that big rumbly V8 out back

Gotta love it...such fun.
The builder also created a V8 powered Beetle with a 500 cubic inch
Cadillac engine in it that is now in a collection in Norway.

Chrome bumpers and emblem, early bullet style turn signals
Miles deep glassy smooth paintwork

Even has a color matched tissue box under the dash!

Speakers behind the seats...oh, and those seats were
from a Porsche 914 and are ada[ted with special brackets and adjusters.

Very nice interior work

Exhaust exits up top!

Wild set up and it all looks quite nicely done

Even has some LED lighting underneath

Built for street cruising, not drag racing of course
but the set up has held well and still shows nice too.
Not a lot of miles since completion obviously and it has been stored and cared for well.

Dash detail...and check out the custom woodgrain finish on the steering wheel!

Floor shifter with gear indicator shown on the dash.

Head unit mounting up on the air vent

And the roller coaster ride seating in the back makes it a fun ride for the friends and family as well

This is not a normal VW obviously and its going to take just the right person
to fall in love with it and want to be its next caretaker.  This was obviously built
as a total passion project and the man just went crazy making the dream a reality.
Its hard to imagine the cost of such a build, especially if you paid a shop to do it all.
Its really a one of a kind.
