1956 VW Beetle Convertible For Sale

Beautiful Oval era Convertible here that is just dripping
with rare parts and accessories.

This car not long ago came to South Carolina from its long tine home in Southern California.
The car was sold new in So Cal and remained local its whole life.
In 1985, the previous owner held the keys and over a period of years restored it to a very high
level, using as many NOS original German parts as possible.

The paint was done in lacquer back then and the shine is still impressive.
Being an older restoration, it is not without flaw
but you will struggle to believe how old the restoration is by looking at it
The car is still very impressive condition wise.

The interior is excellent and has had some recent repair and refreshing from noted experts
in the VW scene.

The dash is loaded with the rare stuff including the trip speedometer, speaker mount tachometer
as well as a Motorola "Big M" radio, Rometsch steering wheel,
shifter ashtray and aluminum Okrasa gas pedal.

There is something so sweet about a solid black Beetle!

Denhe thermometer fuel gauge is another rare period item.

VW logo fluted Euro headlight lenses

Bumpers and chrome are excellent

Beautiful

The engine is a recently rebuilt Okrasa tuned 36 hp that runs fantastic.

Dual carbs
Nicely finished engine tins.
A little corrosion on a few screws and hardware in here, but it would not take much to
prep this for show again and it runs great.

The underside is super solid and clean
A recent undercoat finish has been applied to keep it this way.

Brakes have been recently redone and you can see the parts tag still on the brake hose as evidence.

Very very solid example

Proper split case transaxle

Door panels have the correct convertible only long pockets

Albert Swan Neck accessory mirror

Glass and rubber are all in good shape

So pretty
I love the boas ply black wall tires and detail painted emblems on the hubcaps!
Tires are new by the way!

Under the back seat is solid and sound but could use a little cleaning

Some surface rust forming in the corners of the floor and under the rubber mat
but nothing serious . It should be cleaned and treated to keep it from
being a concern in the future.

New battery

Wheels and tires absolutely make this car!
Excellent choice

The headliner material is a velour type cloth rather than the original mohair
but it is a great choice for its durability. This top was done
decades ago and it still looks really nice...this would not be the case with a mohair liner.

Top fit is very good as are the side windows.

Fantatsic reflection in the paint

Window rubbers on the doors and quarters are in nice shape and the windows roll up and down
as they should (which can be quite the challenge when restoring a convertible)

Accessory aluminum grab handle is a rare item.

Sun and moon horn push is super cool

When the restoration of this car was first completed back in the day
it was an absolute killer at the shows in So Cal, winning top awards
everywhere it went including class wins at the VW Classic 5 years in a row!

And even today it shows strong and is very well received at any show or event.

Top still looks great!

Correct and original convertible only deck lid with the factory rain tray

Love the trinkets!

Amazing Huls seat recliners on both front seats!!

Chrome and class on the roll ups are excellent

Headliner fits well.

Original convertible only mirror with dual visors.

Trip speedo and thermometer fuel gauge

Fantastic VDO tach

Another view of the rare seat recliners

Here is a close up of some of the surface rust under the mat.
A good clean with a rust neutralizer and a coat of paint will be a wise move.
Fortunately there is no rust perforation or pitting from what I am told
so this is not a serious issue.

More interior shots.

Up close and in the bright sun you can see a few age marks and light scratches in spots

Top has aged well

Light fade to the top perhaps, but not offensive

The standard Okrasa air cleaners do not clear the convertible deck lid's rain tray
so currently it is running without.

In addition the spring for the deck lid is not in place and it must be held open with a prop.
I also see here that the rubber seal for the deck lid is missing.

Under the front hood looks nice.

Very straight and solid in the spare tire well area.

Correct four tab hood too by the way.

In closing this is a really beautiful car inside and out.
A well done older restoration on a super solid and straight California car
that has been very well kept and cared for and still looks impressive.
