1950 Deluxe Beetle Sunroof Sedan For Sale

When it comes to collectible vintage VW's, one of the main focus of collectors is to aquire
a very early model...one of the first of the breed. The "Split Window" model is the one to get
and if you are going to get a split...why not go for the top of the line...the Deluxe Sunroof Sedan?
The hardest part with this quest is to find a "genuine" sunroof car...
so many have had sunroofs grafted in and other changes...it's just amazing how often you see it.

This example however is the real deal...an original sunroof car.

This car is located in England...so for you folks in Europe it is much closer to you and shipping will be a breeze,
for a US based buyer you will need to factor in some shipping costs...but it is not a difficult task or horribly expensive to do.

The car is an original numbers matching example. the paint work is about
10 years old now but as you can see it still looks nice and has been well kept.
All the body panels are original to the car, it has had some welding in the past
but is now solid and sound with no rust or bubbles. It has passed the strict
British MOT test and the car was driven from the UK to Germany for the famed
Heissich Oldendorff Vintage VW Meet this past summer...so it is not a garage queen
it is a car that is road worthy and ready for adventure.

The color is called Bordeaux Red and it is a gorgeous tone.
The car features the proper 16" steel wheels with near new Avon tires.

The three fold sunroof is a very cool part of early beetle ownership, as it opens up very wide.

The sunroof cover on this car is done in a matching red...but factory equipment would have been black.
I personally like the red better...a bit classier somehow.

The split rear windows... my favorite part (for obvious reasons).
The window rubber on the car is good and has not gone hard...glass is in good condition as well.

The aluminum sunroof rails...

The car has the proper grooved bumpers and short guards...the chrome is in very nice condition.
Reflectors have been bumper mounted for safety and to pass inspection and the red light below the bumper
acts as a brake light. Proper single tip muffler poking out in this shot.

Correct taillights.

The "Pope's Nose" plate light.

The engine is the correct 25 horse unit with the proper bits in place such as
the "T" aircleaner, flat top distributor and "D" regulator.
The engine runs very well and the car is a delightful driver.

Engine room is clean but not spotless...this is nt a "concours level" restoration. but it is clean
and proper and presents itself well.

Wiring looks clean.

Correct rear apron with crank start hole

Underside of the engine lid

Underneath is dry and decent...again, not show detailed, but presentable.
Car has the proper original suspension, no changes or modifications.

Floor pans are solid

A good layer of undercoating to keep it all tidy.
Looks like there has been a little work to the front apron.

Spare tire well is clean but again not spotless

Looks like there has been some body repair to the lower edge in here.

Wiring was redone during the restoration (or so it appears)

Spare wheel and tire in place it looks great.

Here's an open mouth shot...say "ahhhh"

The interior has a very original look to it and just enough patina to make it feel good to be inside.

Dash pods and instrumentation are in good order...all systems are functional.

Semaphore switch in the center of the dash up top operates the functional
proper grooved semaphores. Round dealie below is the ashrtay and below that is the starter button.

Door jams are clean
Carpet on the kick panels has the correct round aluminum ring for the heater outlet

Headliner is in good shape

Im not exactly sure if this is the actual original upholstery to the car, but the material looks totally correct
for the era and is fitted just like factory...I wouldnt be too suprised if it was the original stuff
Carpet has been redone I bet...same for the headliner...too nice to be the original material.

Good hape...owner says there are just a couple slightly worn spots (small) on the driver's seat
but over all in very good shape.

I spy a fire extinguisher mounted to the seat frame here which is a great idea
(and I believe is a requirement in the UK)
The shifter looks original but the knob is definitely not...however the owner does have the original knob and will include it in the sale.

Rubber bumpers in the door jam are interesting...looks like some polished sill plates in place as well.

Nice panels

Bottoms of the doors appear solid

Apparrantly the lower edge of the rear quarters has had some welding done but the work looks nice to me.

Fenders are all the originals...running boards have the proper thin grooves and grooved trim.

Center mount antenna...proper solid hood emblem and thin wire wiper arms.

VW logo headlight lenses are correct.

Sunroof cover fits well and is in very good shape

Gap at the running board here seems a shade wide to me in this photo...

Door gaps seem proper though

In closing this looks to be a delightful little car.
A good looker and a great runner and it appears that all the proper bits are where they should be.
The early cars have been experiencing a sharp rise in value and increased interest from the general car collecting population
and I can see the future being very bright for the 50's era VWs as time passes.
Its getting harder and harder to find a decent one and even more so one that is original and proper like this.
